We set up two pitches this week as we are getting around 20 players each week. The warm up was led by another volunteer as I am recovering from my stay at hospital. Eventually we managed to get everyone divided into 4 teams and the games kicked-off. Some players were getting more aggresive with their play, and required game and player management to re-establish wellbeing culture. I blew the whistle after approximately 90mins of play, still no hand shakes, but we did get shoe taps in this week for some players.

Five of us from GG braved the icy wind (and also lovely sunshine 🌞) today to help carry some domestic gear from Angel down to Clerkenwell. A gentleman who was moving out was donating it to asylum seekers, so we met up at his and carried it down (in bags thoughtfully supplied by Trainer Simon) to where it could be stored. There was a range of useful stuff including a hoover, lamps, kitchen appliances and desk fans. Slightly bulky, but rather lightweight so presented no struggle for 10 GG hands and feet. 👍

Taking the 3 minute walk from my home I met up with Faye our Taskforce owner, Maelle, Sarah, Ceiling and Becky outside St John's Church, Hoxton. Once inside, we admired the stunning ceiling and stained glass windows before picking boxes of clothes donated by Nike (we estimated tens of thousands of pounds worth) and then sorting them by size and type of clothing. We then displayed them on trestle tables (Sarah was our expert in this area as she once worked for Next!) There will be an open day this weekend to distribute this clothing to needy recipients.

We set up a larger pitch as week in and week out we're getting more players. I led a warm up that encouraged players to share their names with each other. Divided up into two teams and kicked-off. The players were more assertive with their play, that needed increasing player management. I blew the whistle after 90mins, no hand shakes, but we might get shoe taps in next week.

Before the session began, Simon dropped by while on his 100km run. I ran the warm up session, encouraging residents to lead a dynamic stretch. Amazing turnout, we had to set up two matches. One ball got kicked over, so we relocated one pitch further infield. Staggered drink break at hour mark and a further half an hour of football followed. Highly recommend signing up with C4C to give your time for a huge impact.

6 Goodgym runners, walkers and cyclists answered a call from Care4Calais regarding a sudden influx in laptop and technology donations to the charity. The organisation are currently receiving, resetting and rehoming old computers and laptops for households across London who currently do not have a single device for any form of communication. There are many families struggling to cope with limited access to technology, especially if this is a vital resource for home schooling during lockdown.
Each Goodgym member got in contact with their chosen laptop donator (who were based in various different boroughs), and arranged an appropriate time and place to pick up the laptop. Faye, the volunteer coordinator for C4C, then arranged a safe location for the laptop to be dropped off. The process was very efficient, and we are glad to see so many folks get involved (Patrick even had a old work laptop available, and gifted it to the cause).
Thank you so much for your help everyone! We are likely to have more technology delivery tasks in the pipeline, so watch this space!
