Goodgymers get packing down to a FINE ART

Sunday 25th August

Written by Slough runner

PICTURE the scene: four goodgymers, one village hall, screens, tables, and chairs all to be packed away.

EASEL-y done with this dream team with the two shortest ones dwelling under the stage.

The hall soon looked like a BLANK CANVAS.

Nothing to see here...just another good deed CHALKed up and a report full of SKETCHy puns...

This is my 3rd good deed today, my word WATERCOLOUR full day it's been.

Screen Sirens

Sunday 11th August

Written by Amy L (she/her)

This was such a great GoodGym session! Sol, Sheila, Jen, Jess and I helped Cookham Arts Club set up for their annual Summer exhibition.

We had a great mix of tasks:

  • Shifting display screens out from a very cosy space under the stage..."Mind your head Jess! We're clear!"

  • Synchonised slotting of hooks into holes to hang each screen from posts around the room..."In top, in bottom, in and in on our side! And ours!"

  • Team challenge to stick numbers on the 37 screens in record timing. This looked like a one person job, but we divided into blue tack stickers, number runners, and long-armed number stickers, all directed by clipboard lady Jen - go team!

  • Shifting paintings from the stage to their designated screens

  • Carefully hanging paintings in their designated spots using special hooks

  • Jiggling (technical term) hung paintings around to get them all evenly spaced...it's a fine art!

  • Setting up chairs and tables for lunch

  • More shifting of chairs and tables

We also had the pleasure of being the first people to see the paintings hung and window shopping for our favourites. There was a great mix of different styles, media and subject matter on display - very inspiring!

As if that wasn't enough, we were also treated to a home made buffet lunch, including second helpings of some very scrummy puddings. Thank you CAC! You've got us hooked!

Setting the stage - Part 1

Friday 9th August

Written by Jess Smith

Amy, Angela and Jess met at Pinder Hall to help the Cookham Arts Club get started on set up for their art exhibition.

The first job was to move two 'coffins' from the back room into the main hall - but they had to go round the outside to avoid the stage steps! Next up was to help move screens, easels and stands from under the stage into the main hall. A lot of mind your head and squats later everything was out in the hall and it was beginning to be organised.

Exhibitors will be dropping off their art work over the next couple of days where it will then be sorted and on Sunday Goodgym return to help set up the remaining screens and allow the art to be hung for viewing during the week.

Join us on Sunday to help out!

Board Games

Sunday 3rd March

Written by Amy L (she/her)

We had lots of fun this evening helping the Cookham Arts Club take down and store their display boards and other equipment at the end of their Spring exhibition.

The storage space is under the stage - so this called for lots of squatting, crawling around and artful manoeuvres such as the 'boarding pass'. John from CAC was working with us so we could learn how to stack everything correctly. You could say we were at boarding school.

I did wonder at one point whether Juli and Jen would ever make it out from behind the boards we were stacking up in front of them - I loved their commitment to the task, but did't want them to go over board!

Thankfully there was a way out, but not before we'd made a human chain and had a game of Chinese whispers with Tony. Never a dull moment at GoodGym!

Meanwhile there was plenty to do outside the board room to keep Nick and Gillian from getting board. Wrapping paintings, dismantling tables and more shifting and lifting kept them busy.

Big thanks to the GoodGymers who got on board with this task! The board of the club were really pleased with what we achieved.

Title pun credit to Juli!
