Another brick in the (pool) wall

Tuesday 12th April 2022

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

It all went swimmingly at Courthouse when seven GoodGymers made a return trip to practice their brushstroke in the pool hall.

The evening certainly wasn’t a whitewash as we dived back in to the task of applying second coats, and relay good progress was made.

If anything, it was all white on the night, and hopefully one more wave of pool painting should finish the job in time for swimming lessons to restart.

A dozen GoodGymers and fresh coats of paint

Wednesday 30th March 2022

Written by Diya Singh (she/her)

12 GoodGymers ran and walked to Courthouse School to give the swimming pool hall a lick of fresh paint and celebrate a special milestone...

After a brisk warm up in the cold wind, the walker and the runner groups head off towards the school. We were given brand new brushes and roller trays and quickly set upon painting the three walls white. The hall was large enough so although we couldn't complete the entire wall, we made impressive progress in coverage. Another task might be required to finish the job. It went swimmingly well.

And then it was time for the special celebration! Super Sophie completed her 100th good deed and we stepped inside the school building, out of the icy winds, to enjoy a scrumptious, rich chocolate cake baked by Jess and drowned it with Prosecco.

Amy wrote a poem to mark the occasion:

Super duper Sophie, last name Lack,

If you need a helping hand, Sophie’s got your back.

Lack by name but the opposite by nature,

With her on our team we are definitely richer.

With us since the start, Sophie’s a pioneer member,

She does good deeds January to December.

Weeding, painting, digging and picking up litter

And all the while, she’s getting fitter and fitter!

At school she admits she hated sports

But then she discovered Tikiboo shorts

…And parkrun, GoodGym, buggy running and more,

And now she’s team captain for Endure24!

It's not like she hasn’t got a lot on her plate.

She also does loads of other stuff we rate

Like being a super loving twin mummy

And topping cakes so they look even more yummy

She’s also a bowls champ and works at Manor Green

She’s an admin assistant and a social media queen.

She’s an inspiration to people like me and you

Is there anything this girl can’t do?

On your 100th good deed we congratulate you Sophie

We think you deserve a massive trophy!

….Instead we’ve got a medal, and prosecco and cake

But we do think you’re awesome, make no mistake.
