On a chilly March evening, 6 Coventry Good-Gymers made their way to St Columbas Church to support the Coventry Winter Night Shelter sorting and organising donations.
For some members of the team, this was a return visit to the Night Shelter and they were excited to see that the re-organised stock room was still looking in great shape! This week we were also able to introduce Liam and Kevin to the Night Shelter mission, more Good-Gymers to add to the souper-sorter team!
This week our main task was to organise food donations that the Night Shelter had received from a local school. The generous donations arrived in beautifully decorated boxes and were already helpfully pre-sorted into different categories such as biscuits, tea, pasta and lots of soup! One of our more interesting finds this week was a jar of chicken paste which was a cue to discuss childhood memories of school packed lunches. The team were able to speedily add the new donations to the existing stock, re-organise and re-label boxes, which should allow night shelter staff to access food goods easily, therefore maximising their time with service-users.
We were also able to support with organising toiletries, re-stocking clothing donations and clear one of the meeting rooms before it was time to head off home! It has been so rewarding to see the progression of this task each month and see the impact on an invaluable service for many of the members of our community.
Amazing work everyone! Looking forward to the final installment of the Coventry Winter Night Shelter community missions in April!

*This week, 6 runner made their way over to St Columba's church to support Coventry Winter Night Shelter with their stock organisation. *
For some members of the group, this was a return visit and it was great to see the impact of GoodGym's work in organising essential stock for the shelter. Residents of Coventry are very generous and because of this, their is a constant stream of donations coming into the service that need sorting. Tonight, we were able to sort donations of food, clothing and toiletries so that night shelter staff can quickly access the items they need whilst maximising the time that they can spend with their guests and service users.
We will continue to support this invaluable service in regular community missions so that they continue to do their incredibly important work supporting some of our most vulnerable in our city.
Great work everyone!

Four runners helped to sort donations and supplies at the night shelter store room this evening. Bernardo gave us our brief which was to organise the stock and donations, making it clearly labelled and accessible so that everything could be located easily. Lil and Vic were on a roll with organising the sleeping bags and blankets, and had them stacked super-neatly in record time. Meanwhile, Elisse and Debora were sorting through donations of clothes including many pairs of worn pants (!) which were all discarded. Despite the pants, people had been so generous with their donations, including lots of hand knitted gloves and scarves. By the time we finished the store room looked much tidier and everything was clearly labelled. Donations are received regularly, and it looks like there will be plenty more sorting to do on the next mission!
