Nothing but-a-knife

Tuesday 23rd September

Written by Michael

As the nights draw in, and the temperatures drop - goodgym is still here to make your Tuesday's pop.

Tonight was a walk back to Cwtch Together, for a end of Summer tidy up. First it was time to get to work cutting back the nettles and brambles that were growing through the fence from the park. Next, gloves on and it was time to get pulling at those unwanted plants on the edges and side of the building. Plants were piling up so Darren took to the brush like a pro, cleaning those pathways. Michael, armed with a trusty butter knife tackled the cracks all the way along the path. No plant was going to get the better of him.

A great night out helping a wonderful charity.

Join us next time we return to Cwtch Together - this will be our spooktacular halloween task. Sign up here

Having a ball

Tuesday 26th August

Written by Michael

With the end of Summer in sight, and the school holidays nearly over, the goodgymers answered the call to help from Cwtch Together.

7 in total running, 4.6km to the task and back.

And what a task.....

The grounds had been set up as a child's dream, with toys galore, play pits and more inside.

Our jobs for the evening were to clear the garden so that we could get it cut, move all toys inside the hall, or their respective storage shed. A sandpit to carry, get those guns going! And the most fun you can possibly have, emptying the ball pit.

Another wonderful evening in the best company. See you again soon.

Do you gg in life after shrubs.....

Tuesday 15th July

Written by Michael

10 goodgymers tonight, taking to the glorious rain after another heatwave...

oh hello

We were returning to our friends at Cwtch Together, where the stingy plants had shot up. This is not what you want at a play group, so gloves on and elbow grease at the ready, we were off. A group went out into the play fields next to Cwtch Together, as this is where a lot of the nettled were coming from and poking through the metal fence.

Another group were up by the sign, clearing those green meanies away. We had the path cleaners, getting to hard work (one of the last groups to finish working - hardcore).

It was plenty of team work to make a dream work tonight, and we loved it.

Victory over the weeds

Friday 2nd May

Written by Michael

Our community mission Friday, returning to Cwtch Together to finish off their garden just in time for the 80th celebration garden party.

Neda was on weed duty, clearing the pathways and spraying the gates to give them that just finished look.

Martin took to the hover mower, if only it was like the hover board in back to the future. Still he took on the entire lawn, determined to finish.

And finally Michael, on strimming duty, first with the portable, tackling the worst overgrown areas first. Then after the battery ran down, it was time for the regular strimmer, helping Martin finish.

I just an hour, 3 goodgymers made a huge difference to the space.

See you Tuesday for our group task.

Cwtch N the beds

Tuesday 22nd April

Written by Michael

With what looked like a potential rainy Tuesday again, we were worried that we may not achieve our goal this week......

2 TASK TUESDAY

Michael, our resident weather man kept a watchful eye on the Met Office App and assured everyone that the rain would not be coming in until 20:00...

We met at our usual place and split into our two groups of runners and walkers, everyone was meeting at Cwtch Together tonight to begin with. The runners were the first to arrive, just in time to meet with Flo who had made their own way to the task to donate their old dolls for use at the charity play group.

That deserves an extra deed

Michael said Helo to Jon, who was meeting us tonight in place of our usual Sarah. We quickly got the tools out to help with the garden. Michael meandered around the grounds, before briefing Flo who was taking ownership of the task tonight at Cwtch. There were some brambles starting to come through, as well as some 'Lords & Ladies' (Arum maculatum) popping up so the strimmer was needed to remove these, especially the 'Lords & Ladies' before it goes to seed in Autumn and spreads anymore.

Once the walking group arrived, we split into two groups for the second task. We bid farewell to Emma, Emma, Flo and Neda who were going to take on the Cwtch task.

Heading over to the Grange Medical Practice were, Michael, Aimee, Emily and Llion. We were greeted by Chris from Grow Cardiff, we had been here just 2 weeks earlier (read all about that here). Tonight's call was to get the soil delivery into the raised beds...

Shovels at the ready

Straight to work, we were digging soil from a bag straight into the beds on one side, whilst emptying another into wheelbarrows on the opposite side. Some strange conversations as Michael suddenly burst into song with a rendition of the theme tune to Poddington Peas..'Why' I hear you ask.... we still don't know.

This was a great workout with some heavy lifting added in once the bags were empty enough to lift straight into the raised beds. A great day this week with two tasks completed (3 with Flo's donations), thanks to all for joining in.

A flippin' Spring Clean

Tuesday 4th March

Written by Michael

Back to regular with a Tuesday task this week, and it just felt right. Michael led the group down part of the taff embankment on their way to Cwtch Together...Whilst we are mentioning the River Taff, goodgym is taking part in a WORLD Record Attempt on March 21st 11:00 - 13:00. You can sign up to this here

Meanwhile, back at Cwtch......

Joggers, walkers and cyclist joined forces once again, this time for a good Spring clean of the Scout Hall. But before we get started a quick welcome form our organiser, Sarah... and our instruction to give the hall a good scrub down to get rid of the spiders. Would you rather see a mouse or a spider? And what about a spider mouse......

Adam was straight on window cleaning duty - with the occasional rendition of "when i'm cleaning windows". Rosie went to brushing.....but the walls and ceiling, cobwebs be gone! Ben was cleaning those windowsills, Su, Emily and Dylan were wiping down the lower walls.

Dylan was on kitchen duty with Sarah, giving it a nice clean through, and finally in at the last moment...Lucy took to the ceiling sweeping that we just couldn't reach and the sweeping the hall once we had finished.

Our music tonight, a selection from Stevie Wonder, Stevie Nicks and the B-52's....A strange combination but a good run back to Rock Lobster.

Join us next week for a Spring litter pick, a practice before our April one as part of "The Great British Spring Clean".
