Heading East
It was a small team that managed to get themselves to Southwick this week ( despite traffic chaos) to give a helping hand to Carol and her Eastbrook community gardeners.
Having set off in the light and warmth 50 minutes earlier, I don;t think I was the only one to have forgotten just how quickly the light goes at this time of year and how chilly it can get too!
Massive thank you to my trusty team
Huge kudos must be given out to my team tonight BelindaJohnGillybean and Duncan for their hard work and for going the extra mile outside of our borough!
As soon as we got there Carol gave us instructions for our task in the orchard. We set about digging out a border around the trees. This involved lifting out large chunks of turf with either a fork or a spade. There was some discussion as to which group had a tougher job ! There is no doubt that the group with the spade were much neater !
With the turf debris being snuffled away to be recycled the bulb planting commenced . Following this we blended the wild flower seeds with sand then sprinkled them and trod them in.
50 minutes later, even with the help of torches. it got too dark to safely continue and we called time on it.
With some night mode group photos and a quick tour by Duncan of the newly refurbished gym and studios in the leisure centre we all set off home again.
Have a great week all of you and hope to see you at Byron Road together with fitness on the seafront !

*High Five GG Worthing *
It was an evening when it had turned cooler. rained on and off all day and the chill of Autumn had started to set in. Combine this with an out of borough challenge and I was super chuffed and grateful that 7 intrepid GoodGymers had turned out to support this task tonight.
Thank you so very much :)
Weeding out the weeds
Tonights task was all about weeding!
All of my team today shined through like the absolute stars that they are!
From Gillybeanand Rosalind who nailed the Eastbrook community gardeners bed to Sue Ricky,John and Duncan who all smashed the brief tonight of clearing the north facing wall of a large industrial unit bordering this local community crescent.
Super Proud
This was a task that went a long way to support the local community in an area where going the extra mile means more than alot. However, to me it went further than this. On a day and a task which wasn't pretty, local, high profile or easy, my team shone through with their commitment, hard work and good humour. Thank you so very much. You all deserve double kudos.
Next week is more local and way more popular - A Worthing favourite - Heene Cemetery. See you there at 6pm.
Have a great week.
Julia xx
