We were super excited to finally get the chance to go and visit Joe Elston at Fernheath Play Project. a charity play area for children to explore and create in a safe and exciting environment.
It would usually fall outside our running radius for a group run, so it was great to be able to go on a Saturday morning and use it as a starter session.
We met Neil and Abi at Coy pond which is 1.5km further along from our usual meeting spot at Flirt Cafe. Caprice, Daryl and I met at Flirt and ran along the beautiful gardens that have a small creek leading through it. One of our favourite places to run along.
After a quick chat with the ducks at the pond we set-off on our run to Kinson Road, which took us through the muddy Talbot Heath. It was great to run in daylight for a change but also away from roads, our shoes may have thought differently though.
Joe met us at the door and put us to work quickly. Neil put a fresh coat of paint on the walls in the play hall. Caprice got her vacuuming fix and Abi braved the stove top and polished that clean.
Daryl used his experience as the understudy to Ralph Macchio in the Karate Kid film and waxed on and waxed off all the windows, inside and out!
After a mop of the floors we still had time to pose for a photo with Joe by one of the climbing frames...unfortunately their zip line was locked up and out of use! Sorry Abi!!
We made short work of the way back and shaved 10 minutes off our time....probably helped by the fact we didn't take a small detour through the heathland or have to deal with as many hills!!
Awesome work everyone! Well done on the longer distance and for coming out on a Saturday morning!!
See you all next week!
