The Friends of Whitehall Recreation Ground is a voluntary group that was set up in late 2005 after a series of public meetings that were organised in partnership with the London Borough of Bromley. The purpose of the group is to encourage the local community to have an involvement in the upkeep of the local park and have a stake in its future development.
Our Green Gym runs every Thursday from 1pm-3pm, weather dependent, meeting by the container opposite the Bath Road entrance. Great for well-being, mental and physical health, we have added raised sensory beds, maintained and developed our flower beds and the nature area of the park, and created essential habitats to encourage more biodiversity.
We have run a series of successful events throughout the years including our Easter Egg Hunt, Bark in the Park (our dog show), Fun Day, Apple Day and organised and run Bromley Beer Festival since 2015. This has allowed us to pay for an outdoor exercise trail, revitalise the children’s play equipment (including the zip wire and rope swing), install a sculpted bench, and invest in our pond area.
We have developed a range of habitats including creating a hedgerow, stag beetle loggery, an orchard, bat and bird boxes, a meadow and pond area. We also have a series of workdays throughout the year that range from habitat creation to daffodil planting.
