“January Blues”
Goodgym ain’t got time for that!
We’ve got the January challenge to complete!!
Whoever came up with that statement must be cursing GoodGym, despite the horrid weather conditions we still keep going energiser/Duracell ain’t got @#T on us!
Last night was no exception either it wasn’t wet but there sure were some icy winds blowing leading up to the task, yet 14 brave runners including a tourist all the way from Bexley Matt turned out to do what we do best.
Having done our usual formalities we ran ran 3.5km to Legacy Youth Zone to build a green house and a compost heap. When we arrived Angela was there awaiting us with a massive smile to greet us, once we signed in we were taken through to the outdoor space where all the stuff for us to do was explained.
Those who wanted to build the green house went one direction while the rest of us went to the back of the garden some lifting pallets, some raking leaves and some offering construction ideas on how to build the compost bin.
Wearing her new tee with pride was our newest member of the 100 Club Ingrid.
Through the laughter and chatter we completed our task and before we said our good byes we had a few games of rock, paper, scissors where the looser did sprints and the winner did squats. Just as we decided to change the activities the light went out and we had to call it a night.
As it was last Tuesday of the month there were a few social drinks at the George.
Next week, we'll be spreading the word about Croydon healthy homes to the Broad Green residents come along and help us get the word out to the residents about what they can do to help cut the cost of keeping their homes warm in the winter months.

Last night 15 runners met at Solutions for our weekly group run, we were running to Selhurst to assist the folks at Legacy clear an area for their new sensory garden.
We had two visitors along with us Marta from Greenwich/Lewisham and Dina a reporter from the BBC who was doing a peice on "People fixing the World" I find out when our episode will be publish and let you know.
Congratulations to Juliet and Martin on their recent coach parings, very pleased you both had a great first visit!!
Between a combination of runners and walkers we covered 3.5km to and from the task, whilst being interviewed, impressive eh!
Last year 15 would be a great turn out for GG Croydon, and would leave me wondering did they all turn up for their moment of fame, because I had mentioned in the whatsApp group that we would have a reporter coming along from the BBC!
But these days we are used to double figures turn outs despite the freezing cold conditions and our volunteers are ride or die when it comes to doing good in our local community.
When we arrived at the task they seemed surprised by the number of us who had turned up for the session. After we had all signed in we were taken to the back (no one got done over) and showed the area to be cleared and told that if we had time we could help clear some of the leaves that had fallen from the trees and take them to the compost heap.
There were 3 beds with weeds to be cleared, some members of group split themselves between the beds while others began tackling the massive outdoor space which was covered in leaves. Within 10 minutes the beds had been cleared of all weeds and made ready to be planted, however before any planting starts the centre will be raising the beds for easy access for their wheel chair users. Those who were on the beds then went and joined the others on leaf duties. Having completed our task we were treated to an array of snacks by the centre's little helpers who were quite persuasive in ensure each members of the group had something to eat.
We were then given a tour of the facility we all wanted to revisit our youth as they had so many facilities available to for the young people who attended the centre it was unbelievable. Check out the pictures, if you know of a young person who live in the Croydon Area and they have not been to Legacy I would strongly encourage them to take a trip there, Gym, multi purpose sports hall, kicthen, TV studio (Legacy TV), Art room, dance studio, hair/nail studio, pool tables, computer consoles...... the list goes on and the more i type about them is the more I'm feeling jealous. I'm ready for an adult take over so if anyone wants to form a coup without the violence sign me up!! (GoodGym takes no liability and idea of a coup is not a representation of GoodGym and are solely views of Conroy in a non GoodGym capacity)
I forgot the outdoor football cage, boxing ring and climbing wall, all i want for Xmas, is to be taken back to my tweens so I can go to Legacy!
Sign up to our group run on Saturday morning at South Norwood Parkrun we won't be chasing PBs we'll be running together as a group then heading for some breakfast after.
Next week 10 December is our Xmas special still time to sign up! Xmas jumper is a must!

Our last group run for 2019 will be on 17th December, we then resume on Tuesday 7th January 2020, please note although group runs are taking a break there will still be missions and coach visits going ahead. So do keep an eye out for community missions if you're not mission verified or if you know of an organisation that could benefit from our help through a community mission. Have you had a look at GoodGym stats for this year so far?
Good morning, thanks for having me along yesterday, it was great fun meeting your friendly group. You have very supportive atmosphere. Not to mention a chance to have a go on the climbing wall! What a great evening! Have a good week!
