The Long GoodGym Friday

Friday 29th January 2021

Written by Huw Davies

A monster stint from GG Leicester today at The Peepul Centre with Nick, Stu and Huw putting in 12 hour shifts each and Dave and Mel joining us for four more making it 44 hours of volunteering in a day.

Amazing stuff team.

Huge congratulations to Mel on achieving her 150th good deed, an incredible achievement, well done!

She was heartily congratulated on site by Huw and Nick while husband Dave's reaction when he was told was "how many have I done?" Genuinely in disbelief that she'd beaten him to it!

Great work again gang!

Paneer Peepul

Thursday 28th January 2021

Written by Huw Davies

Another day, another five GoodGym runners volunteering at The Peepul Centre as a further 500 or so local residents and key workers received their first coronavirus vaccinations.

One highlight of this task is the fabulous food laid on by the centre for staff and volunteers, today's was an amazing chilli paneer with noodles, worth a few hours work on the front line just for the sheer quality of the food!

Well done gang.

Another great day as Nick, Stu and Huw volunteered at The Peepul Centre.

Today we vaccinated a combination of health and social care workers and members of the community and also received a visit from the BBC, ITV and the Director of Public Health Ivan Browne.

Lots to do, lots of people vaccinated and some delicious pasta for lunch!

Well done!

Howz-vacc!

Tuesday 26th January 2021

Written by Huw Davies

Another productive day for Team GG at The Peepul Centre as the covid vaccination programme continued.

With Nick, Stu, Huw, Mel and Dave all volunteering again we were briefly joined by a 6th GoodGymmer as Ashley was also in for her scheduled vaccine.

Further good news for cricket umpire Huw who was delighted to see Leicestershire CCC 2nd XI scorer Pete Johnson in for his jab - a relief to be getting the most essential of workers for an umpire vaccinated in time to take up his position in the scorebox this summer to receive Huw's signals!

Great work again gang, back for more tomorrow.

Five go vaccinating

Friday 15th January 2021

Written by Huw Davies

This morning Nick, Dave, Mel, Stu and Huw all volunteered at The Peepul Centre helping get more local residents vaccinated.

This is the most important and rewarding volunteering we've done as a GoodGym group and it so good to hear feedback from the "customers" many of whom are leaving the house for the first time in ten months, for the work we are doing.

Brilliant work everyone!

Testing, testing, 1-2-3

Monday 6th July 2020

Helping Leicester NHS raise awareness of mobile testing sites and how people can book a test.

The City Council and NHS are doing an amazing job of testing as many people as possible, mobile testing centres are moving day by day to get to new areas to make it as easy as possible for local residents to get a free coronavirus test.
