Cool work at the Fridge

Wednesday 11th June

Written by Jade

Our regular visits helping with the post distribution clean-up are making a difference week by week. Today was a perfectly warm evening, ideal for getting an extra pair of hands along (thank you Steve!) after work to help. Peter and Rhian were also there following the distribution to help with sorting the crates outside, giving the fridges a proper clean, and cleaning/tidying boxes. Once hoovered we made sure everything was back in it's place ready for the next distribution.

There was just time for Steve to firm up details for helping at a distribution session later this month - and we are back for the group session on Wednesday 25th June to deep clean the storage area and help remove a partition wall, so sign up and get involved if you can: Https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/help-with-deep-cleaning-at-merton-s-community-fridge

Binning the rubbish and bagging the bread

Wednesday 4th June

Written by Jade

Rufu and Steve arrived to join Jade at Merton's Community Friday to lend a hand with the clean up after a busy distribution session. There was plenty of boxes to clean and rubbish to sort into the relevant piles and then take out to the larger bins. There was also time to re-organise some of the crates until the rain came but the main jobs were completed within the hour and the team were on their way with loaves of bread.

Getting it sorted: bins, boxes and briefings

Wednesday 28th May

Written by Jade

After a full walk-through and briefing, we got stuck into cleaning off various boxes. However, a big job was to rescue and re-sort the rubbish and recycling as things were a little out of control, with wrong items in wrong bins, so this took a good chunk of our time to get everything back in order. Despite the unexpected sorting challenge, we left The Fridge looking much tidier and a promise for more training and an extra session to be arranged.

Heat, help and happy work

Wednesday 30th April

Written by Jade

We were one volunteer down (last minute) for the clean-up after another busy food distribution session at Merton’s Community Fridge. And with the warmer weather in full swing, it was a sweaty one, but we cracked through just about every box and crate rolling up our sleeves to get everything back in order. From wiping down surfaces to taking out bins and helping with a much needed extra laundry load (thanks to the heat), we were done and on our way for the next job.

Fridge filler to the rescue

Wednesday 30th April

Written by Jade

A last minute request for support at Merton's Community Fridge, was a varied session. From or handing out a wide array of items, from biscuits and soft drinks to much needed pet food and washing powder.

Afterwards the challenge of moving 2 crates of sausages from fridge to freezer and repacking kept things cool on a reasonably warm evening.
