Home Library Service Catchup

Wednesday 11th August 2021

Written by Ben Foster

There were a few library drop offs before and after a spell of isolation.

A few weeks ago, Mrs M was very happy with the varied collection of audiobooks and was pleased with the warm weather, although it did mean she had to get the fan out to stay cool in the evenings. We chatted about some authors she liked and have me a list for future reference. We also chatted about family in Wales, growing flowers and veg in the garden, and the length of time she had lived in the bungalow in which she lives now.

This week, we had a bumper discussion about the Olympics that were on recently, meaning she hadn't quite gone through all of the audio books. The last one she found very intriguing with a murder mystery vibe to it. I managed to find some audiobooks from the authors she mentioned to keep her going until the next visit.

There was also a new client, Mr D, who is away at the moment but has an interest in Science and Nature so looking forward to finding a few more different types of books in the future.

Home Library Service - May

Sunday 23rd May 2021

Delivered books to 2 out of 3 home library services users as 3 weeks had passed since the last visit. The third lady who was in London last time I visited was this time in Brighton!

It turns out I didn’t do a great job picking out books for the ladies last time. One lady has read practically every book by the authors she said she liked, so I searched for books by authors with similar styles. Turns out she’d rather read books she’s already read than try out new authors! Makes it easier for me at least!

Here are some photos of just a few of the Michael Connolly books I didn’t take out because she’s already read them.

Home Library Deliveries

Wednesday 26th May 2021

I’ve been delivering library books to 2 ladies since late March. At first it was quite challenging to pick out books for them as the libraries weren’t generally open, and I found browsing the online catalogue on behalf of someone else a difficult way to choose books! My last couple of visits have been much more satisfying as I’ve been able to browse the shelves. Today I was pleased to spot a new Elizabeth Chadwick book for one of my ladies who’s a fan of historical fiction, and picked out a nice, light family saga for the other lady.

I had a nice chat on the doorstep with each lady.

Home Library deliveries

Wednesday 5th May 2021

I selected 6 books for a lady who can no longer make it to the library herself and delivered them to her home. I was pleased to find 2 books she hadn’t yet read by her favourite author. Had a little chat on the doorstep.
