Just metres away from the first mission of the day at the 500th running of Lloyd Park Run,4 GoodGymers made their way across the park to help out the Park Hill allotments and garden society.
Unfortunately in recent years, the allotment holders have had some issues with break ins, fires and burgalries. To take action, members are clearing the way to build some more secure fencing, to try and help the problem getting worse. Magda is a member of the allotments so she led the way and we met other allotment holders already hard at work.
The main task was to help cut down and remove large bushes and overgrown areas, to make way for the new fencing. This includes lots of brambles and thorns, thank goodness there were tools and gloves on hand! We spent a good hour cutting and moving brambles, definitely putting the ‘gym’ in Goodgym as we worked up a sweat! We were rewarded with a trip to Magda’s lovely allotment where she has carrots and parsnips growing!
It was a great morning spent deep in Lloyd park where it almost felt like the countryside!
