Burnt Slope, Bikes and Tree fans

Saturday 10th September 2022

Written by Woody

We joined Bobby's mission on Saturday to tackle a burnt out slope in Sandy Park, lots of local community members were also doing the same and it became a wider litter picking task, we found two bikes, a traffic cone and the base of a fan that was lodged high up in a tree. Prizes for who can guess how it got there.

Good gym spring into Saturday action!!!

Saturday 9th April 2022

Written by Bobby B

Last Saturday following a successful stint of mashalling at nearby Catton park, some Norwich Goodgymers carried on with some more good work in the community of NR3.

Despite my best efforts to sabotage the whole thing with dodgy map upload and even putting task on the wrong day, We somehow met on site at 10:30am and met some of the local community group, to find out a bit about the area

A bright sunny day made for a happy positive hour in improving the area around the Shipstone Park which had fallen into some neglect over the years

Elizabeth and Jenny wasted no time at all in cutting back the entrance to the park which had become overgrown. Nicole and Kim swept and weeded the pathway to give it a real makeover. After seeing goodgym in action even some passers by chipped in with helping removing litter from the shrubs.

Steve helped with digging and preparing the round beds that had fallen into disrepair . It is hoped these can now be dotted with wildflower mixtures. As the day warmed up lots of bees strarted populating the colourful shrubs outside the park

The hour flew by and the locals could hardly believe how much nicer the whole area looked!

Everyone was super pleased with goodgym and we all then parted ways to enjoy the rest of the weekend.

lovely stuff. xx

Green goodgymmers tackle a thorny issue!!

Saturday 29th January 2022

Written by Bobby B

Saturday morning eleven goodgymers gave up an hour of their time to help a new community group in NR3 .

The gang met local community hero Robert Bakewell outside the Mousehold hub and were given a quick chat about the area and what the community group were trying to achieve.

After a heart stirring and passionate talk, we were given loppers, shears and rakes with the task outlined to remove brambles and hazardous from a relict and disused fence line and restore a park boundary to give a more pleasant aesthetic to the park.

With Goodgym doing this community mission and achieving this task, it meant that the community group could litterpick safely afterwards in the area.

The group had a fun hour getting a fair bit of exercise in and bonding well with each other as always rallying together when we all started to get pricked by bramble thorns.

This week we welcomed new member Nial Nial Webster. Hope you had a good time Nial and see you again soon.

The community group were really pleased with the work achieved by the good gym group in a short space of time and it is hoped that they will return in the not so distant future to help with more green spaces restoration.
