A sunny morning for a junior parkrun - the perfect way for 88 juniors to burn off some energy from all the Easter eggs!
Nigel and Karen represented GoodGym today at junior parkrun - taking in several roles between them - run director, course set up, greeting and thanking all the volunteers with easter eggs, chocolate marshal, finish token support, event close down, communications, results processing and token sorting!

74 juniors and their parents were able to get their Sunday morning fix of walking, running and skipping thanks to the amazing volunteers, including our very own Maurice, Mark, Emily and Nigel!
Emily and Nigel were marshals around the course, Mark led the course set up team, and Maurice had the all-important tailwalker job which turned into a bit of an interval training session! Maurice joined Emily and Nigel with packing everything away before retreating to the cafe for tea & coffee and a good catch-up.

Its name is junior parkrun – a free, weekly 2k event for 4-14 year-olds and their families every Sunday morning. That first Sunday morning in April 2010 saw nine children and a group of parents and volunteers quietly walk, jog, run, skip and laugh along a 2k route in London's Bushy Park. 15 years on and there are now 469 Junior Parkruns across The UK, Ireland and Australia. There have been a total of 6,401,778 finishers across 115,666 events where an amazing 156,853 Volunteers have given up their time to help support. Today enjoying the sunshine were Wendy, Maurice and myself where we enjoyed watching 98 local children making their way around the 2km course. We had 31 personal bests but also 9 first timers which is brilliant. Lovely to see all the family and friends supporting each other in the beautiful Queens Park. Luckily, Karen is back next week so quality report writer will return as well as someone who takes better photos than Mark. Karen was too busy today teaching Stanley the Parkrun dog bad habits.

We love junior parkrun, and today was especially lovely as we had lots of juniors getting involved in volunteering - the adult volunteers and GoodGymmers Karen, Maurice, Claire and Nigel were just there in support roles!
Juniors carried out the following roles for us today: pre-event setup, announcing milestones, Run Director, giving out the wristbands, leading the warm-up, helping with the warm-up, timekeeping, barcode scanning, giving out finish tokens, tailwalking and sorting the finish tokens! Its great to be able to support all the juniors taking part and the volunteers of the future.

Two GoodGymmers helped to make the magic happen at junior parkrun this week - well done Emily for being a marshal, and well done Maurice for being a timekeeper. 97 children (and lots of parents) got to take part in junior parkrun thanks to the wonderful volunteers. That's a huge attendance, no doubt due to the lovely warm weather!

Yes, you read that right ... the sun put in an appearance at junior parkrun this week! Hooray!
83 juniors crossed the finish line, supported by lots of parents either running with them or cheering them on - what a fantastic atmosphere! We even welcomed an international visitor from Finland too!
Nigel and Mark were both marshals on the finishing straight, cheering the juniors on to the end, while Maurice and Claire were marshals around the course with the juniors passing them twice on their 2km run, walk or skip, and Karen was waiting for them at the finish line as a timekeeper. junior parkrun is such a lovely event for all the family, and just as rewarding for the volunteers too. Well done everyone!
