Another dark, damp January evening and another group of unstoppable runners hit the streets of Liverpool on a mission to get fit and do good.
After a busy weekend of doing good (yes that is lil'ole GG Liverpool in third place in the January Challenge) a huge group of 23 runners still came out for our weekly Group Run. It was all down hill as we dodged pedestrians on a rare run through the city centre and we soon arrived at the Scope shop.
Warmly greeted, we split into two groups - one on the shop floor and the other in the stock room downstairs. The team was put to work across a variety of tasks including stock check, sorting books and flip flops, tagging and steaming. Meanwhile, Becky S. and Emma took the middle ground, sweeping and mopping a staircase that looked long overdue a deep clean.
A big shout out and welcome to newbie Mike who did a great job - come run with us again soon! And thanks to Molly and Baptiste for recruiting Mike :)
Having completed LOADS of tasks for Scope AND finding time to take some silly photos, we headed to nearby Derby Square for a fun fitness session. The way home was all up hill, but everyone dug deep. One passerby suggested that we were a group of new year's resolution runners and would be quitting soon - if only he knew! The numbers speak for themselves: we now have 11 runners in the Black t-shirt crew :)
If you can't wait until next week, we've got LOADS lined-up for this week, so sign-up here and bring a friend!

14 bold runners managed not to get blown away in 45km/hr winds as they ran 3km to help a local charity shop.
This week GoodGym Liverpool smashed through the 1,500 good deeds barrier. In just 20 months, this dream team has clocked all of those good deeds by helping amazing organisations and scores of elderly people throughout the wider Liverpool area (and sometimes beyond!). This has been achieved by the combined efforts of 174 runners! Check out our stats page here for more.
This week's Group Run took us on a rare route through the city centre, dodging deliveries and heckles/encouragement as we went. The short run ended at the local charity shop for the national charity Scope. Our task was to sort through a mountain of winter wear bags, sorting, tagging and hanging the various jumpers, coats, trousers and hats. With first class team work, it was 40 minutes well spent and the manager of the shop was really pleased with the results.
This week's special shout out goes to Christine who is getting married THIS Saturday - congrats lovely!
After we'd finished at the task we tackled the hilly route home and enjoyed some walking lunges down the back streets.
Thanks again to everyone who came out on such a windy, dark night. Only the brave run at this time of year and you are all heroes to me.
Next week is one of our last outdoor tasks of the year, when we go competitive flyering in Kenny. Wrap up warm folks and let me know you're coming here.

On a beautiful winter's evening, our super 17 ran nearly 5km to help Scope, the disability charity.
GoodGym Liverpool has been around for over ten months now, yet in all that time, we've never run through the city centre. Tonight was the night! With GoodGym red (ahem, Chinese New Year) lanterns hanging in the trees and the glass store fronts glowing, we enjoyed a rare treat of running through a pedestrianised area, rather than alongside busy roads amidst car fumes. Even with a few drunken cat calls, it was worth it to run in a totally new area.
We arrived at the Scope store and went through to the packed storeroom downstairs. The team got stuck in opening the newly arrived donations bags and sorting them in to bins marked with labels for each department of the shop. We managed to empty and repack around 30 bags in half an hour and the Scope team were really chuffed with our effort.
This week's shout outs go to newbies Dan and Claire. Plus a huge big up to Kike - visiting us from GG Islington - who clocked her 250th good deed tonight, wooooweee!
After the task we went for a run in another spot that we've never been to as a group before; down to the river at Mann Island. It is a beautiful spot packed with tourists during the day, but we had it nearly entirely to ourselves tonight. With the Three Graces buildings lit up in red, the group split in two with one group tackling the steps at the Museum of Liverpool and the other running drills along the docks.
The run back was short but all uphill. The whole team did great, gritty their teeth to the top. Well done everybody!
Next week we'll be delivering newsletter for Central Youth Club. Expect a steady run, a little bit of competitive leafleting and a fun fitness session. Sign up now :)
P.S. Kudos to Grace for the title pun!
