Mop until you drop!

Tuesday 15th March 2022

Written by Sarah Whitehouse

For part 2 of our task at the Seddon Community Centre, Ramon and I set to cleaning out the new food bank space, giving ourselves quite the workout with brooms, mops and buckets! I confess, my spine feels somewhat creaky now! We worked hard, laughed hard and did battle with 10 years' worth of dust and grime (not to mention rehoming an uncountable number of snails and spiders!). Guttering was weeded, walls and ceilings and floor were brushed and washed down with disinfectant, and the patio outside swept and scrubbed. Once again, host Sunder seemed delighted by our efforts. Every step towards moving the Beaumont Road Estate food bank off the pavement and into a secure storage space feels like a small victory. There is more to be done, and I'm certain this won't be our last visit. Here's to seeing the new food bank up and running very soon!

E10: Spray Another Day

Tuesday 8th March 2022

Written by Helen Farebrother-Naylor

The Seddon Children’s/ community centre in E10 needed our help today. Their goal: clearing a shed and the space in front from which to run their food bank 🥫 for the good people of Leyton.

Today: clearing the space 🧤 in front of the shed of weeds 🍃 and leaves 🧹 and sorting the contents of the shed. Next time: cleaning 🧽 and painting.

The lovely GoodGymmer Sarah took some time out from working from home, and was there primed and ready for action, while Sunder briefed us for the task ahead. Thanks also for arranging the sun for us for our respective runs to the task!

Reader, my GoodGym T shirt is missing in action, presumed behind a radiator somewhere..But, I digress. The important thing is, we got the job done. Taking care to preserve fauna- earthworms 🪱, spiders 🕷, snails 🐌 , and other invertebrate chums, Sarah and I cleared the superfluous flora in record time in our trusty marigolds.

Next up: clearing the shed. Ably done by Sarah and Sunder, while I headed off for an another appt. They sorted and cleared, including putting some toys etc. for collection, organising some bits for the caretaker, sweeping out the shed, and all while having a nice chin wag. Ta da! Job done.

There’s more work to do to clean and paint the space, and we look forward to returning! Thanks for having us and being such excellent hosts 😊.
