Last night 9 wonderful runners ran 6km to help sand the railings and clean the area for the signpost centre, the centre is used by various careers and people being cared for a daily basis, they hold many activities, as well as help and advice.

It was great to be back, after a week in the sunshine it was great to breeze back to Stockport and reunite with the goodgym crew.

Last night I got to take it easy, which is always good after a holiday! As the lovely Kate from Trafford was here to lead the session. Trafford Goodgym is launching on the 21st of this month, the sessions will be held on a Wednesday and so here in the Northwest we can get 2 sessions in per week now if we like! How cool is that. A few of us are going over to the launch, the more the merrier, so come join in, i have heard its great first task they have planned.

Anyway, back to the task we got up to last night! We ran a hilly 3km to our destination, when we got there we split into 2 groups, 1 half litter picking ( a few random items were found as per usual, this week some posh black knickers were found) the other with the ask of sanding and scrubbing the railings, this time with wire brushes. After 5 minutes the teams swapped tasks, and some light weeding and sweeping was added to the list, after the next 5 minutes team 1 had a fitness session, then another 5 minutes later team 2 got to do the same.

It was lovely session to come home too, it was great to meet Bernard and Joanne, well done on running up that hill! And being part of the team that didn’t moan about sanding the rails…..Jo, was the toffee crisp still in the fridge??

A huge WELL DONE to Kate for leading the session and doing a great job of it, very excited at the launch of Trafford.

Also while talking about celebrations, don’t forget its our 1st birthday very soon, ill be sending out messages about what we have planned later this week, how time flys when your having fun!

Its good to be back people, see you next week when we have a much shorter run planned, running to St Matthews church in Edgeley, with the wonderful Pam, which means brews and treats will be involved!

Have a great week running, Lisa

13 fab runners ran 6 km on a beautiful sunny evening to help out the Heatons Centre.

As the Trainer of GoodGym Liverpool, a trip to our neighbouring GoodGym Stockport was long over due. So with their usual Trainer Lisa on her jollies, I was the substitute teacher. Gladly, I was met with a warm welcome. While Lisa enjoys the sandy beaches of Ibiza, she left us with a packed of sandpaper!

Our task was to sand down flaky handrails outside the Heatons Centre, the base for Signposts, a local charity supporting unwaged carers of all ages in the Stockport area. With some vigorous sanding techniques, our sandpaper didn't last for too long. But we did the best we could with limited resources and the handrails were left a lot smoother than when we arrived. Great work team!

Shout out to newbie Hayley - I hope you enjoyed your first time with GoodGym. I'm sure Lisa would love to meet you next week. Thanks also to Pauline and Emma who accompanied me from Liverpool and earned their Scout badge.

After completing the task I wanted to know what team Stockport is made of so I worked them hard on a fitness task with some strengthening and conditioning drills. We also enjoyed a little sprinting. The run back was mostly downhill and I managed to remember the route back without any assistance!

Thanks for having me Stockport, hope to see you again sometime. Normal service will resume next week.

*Happy running,

Char <3*

P.S. You can sign up for the Liverpool Spring 10km here :)

How many people does it take to change a garden???

Tuesday 28th August 2018

45 runners ran 6.0k to help reform the signpost gardens and surrounding areas.

What a fabulous launch night! 45 runners/Amazing humans, joined us at Lifeleisure Grandcentral where we were joined by our partners Age UK Stockport and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. We had a gentle warm up to set our legs for all the hills in the evenings session (sorry!!) After 3 shorts breaks waiting for the magic green man we started stomping up hill number one to our location of Signpost Stockport for Carers in Heaton Moor. The group were amazing, everyone chatted and laughed (grimaced maybe?) up hill one, slight race down hill, where we then ran up the 3rd and biggest hill........(sorry again) Eventually we made it to Signpost where the lovely Julia and Catherine met us with warm smiles and all the equipment we needed for our task of arranging the garden, pulling up moss, painting planters, cleaning windows and sprucing the area up for carers. It looks brilliant, a tranquil, colourful space for people to take some time out to relax, and the windows are also gleaming! Well done team, together we made a huge impact. As well as our run, the night also included a fun fast blast fitness session where we planked and press up'd around the grass, here people were able to work as hard or as easy as they liked.

After the task was complete we made our way back to Lifeleisure for a stretch off, de-breif and a huge massive thank you. People were still smiling at the end of the session, no more than myself who still hasn't stopped smiling, I'm still overwhelmed by the greatness of you all, the atmosphere, energy and sense of community was wonderful. Well done to all of you, Same time next week then eh??..................................no hills next week, promise.
