Two groups of GoodGymmers hit the streets to deliver community newsletters for St James' Forum, as well as helping me with my Leadership in Running Fitness qualification tonight!
MEGA shoutout to Lisa and Craig who recently completed their 50th GoodGym deed. To celebrate they get a rather fetching/stealthy black shirt, as well as some Black Magic chocolates to slow them down a bit / get them ready for Christmas provided by Klara.
To get started we met up on Piazza Terracina at Exeter Quayside. We enjoyed some lovely moves including crab walks and skips to feature on the video which some poor trainer will enjoy watching!
Following our warm up we had a nice short run through town, where we met Harry (once Klara had called the right Harry...). He gaves us lots of community newsletters to deliver locally.
After this we headed over to St Leonards for some tasty hill sprints. Spicer Road is a lot less steep than I remembered which is probably a good thing post-lockdown...
Santa Klara came through with another festive treat for us all at the end of the evening, as we watched her imbibe a full flask of mulled wine! It's a shame regulations meant we couldn't share any.
Happy Christmas everyone!

8 GoodGymers got a full body workout by pulling down ivy from the walls around Queens Crescent, making it nicer for the local residents!
It was a lovely crisp evening and 8 goodgymers came running, cycling and walking to Queens Crescent to help out with some gardening tasks. It was brilliant to have Charlie and Emma with us from Exeter University Cool Runnings Society again! Welcome back to Exeter and to uni!
Queens Crescent is a lovely green area right in the city centre and for years it was very overgrown and there were big problems with antisocial behavior. The local residents got together and have worked super hard over the years to do it up so it can be enjoyed by everyone living in the area. Helping them out could not be a better task for our GoodGym group!
Our task was to pull down the ivy that was growing over the brick walls, dig up the roots and rake the ground bellow.
You would not believe the difference we made in just 1 hour!
It was absolutely brilliant to hear all the chatting and laughing going on whilst we were working, the sharing of lockdown stories, about returning to work/uni and a lot of remembering what we did this time last year. Time flew by, we worked so long it got dark outside and we had to bring out the winter-lights for the first time this autumn.
Such a good time and absolutely FANTASTIC work everyone! The task-owner was so pleased with how much we got done!
I hope you all had good walks, runs and bike rides home and I really hope I see you soon again! Take a look at the listing here

8 fantastic #GGwinterwarriors came out in the stormy evening, ran 2.2 k to deliver leaflets for St James Forum, smashed a circuit training session and some Sally Squats! Amazing work everyone, that is soooo much getting fit and doing good in one single session!
With a lot of our regular runners being away on work Christmas parties it was fantastic to have 8 keen runners along this evening! A big cheer for Helen, Rachel, Philippa, Lucy R (great hat!) Ellie, Andy and Anna for coming out despite it being such stormy weather and such a busy time of the year!
We started our evening with a dynamic warm up session outside the Phoenix, also discussing what our favorite Christmas treats are. We then set off towards our task location which was only 1 k away, making the most of the run by stopping regularly for some squats and lunges. This also ensured that we arrived all together in a big happy bundle to the task location, not leaving anyone behind! Thank you so much Helen for back marking (and good luck with your new job tomorrow)!
Our task this evening was to deliver newsletters for St James Forum. Events, news and thoughts about St James are shared in the newsletter and, as some of the volunteers who usually deliver it have recently moved away form the area, our help to make it reach the local residents was very appreciated.
To get as much as possible done we divided into smaller groups and set off delivering. Everyone worked realky hard and we completed the whole delivery round that we had been given! Yay!
You guys sure do work hard at all tasks! Amazing work!
With a bit of extra time for fitness we got fitter than ever before by working hard on:
Fantastic effort by all! You worked so hard we just HAD to refuel with some chocolates towards the end. Not that we need an excuse really!
Finally we cooled down with a jog back to the Phoenix were we did some stretches and balancing exercises. Remember how important this part of your training session is, it is where your next session starts, ensuring you will be ready for it.. On that note I hope to see you all again very soon at some of our exciting events taking place over the next week (see below, there is lots to choose from).
Nothing beats getting fit by doing good with you guys! You're the best!
EXCITING STUFF COMING UP
On Friday 13th we have a fantastic Community Mission! Even if you can spare just half an hour please do come along and support the Westbank in hosting a Social Club Christmas Party. Could there be a better way to get into the Christmas spirit than doing a good deed involving a Christmas party! Come along and join us!
On Sunday 15th we have our Christmas race in the morning and our Christmas drinks in the afternoon. I would love to see you guys then!
Next week is our last group run this year. We will complete the task of lefleting for Age UK spreading the word about their important campaign #EatTogetherExeter. We will of course also play some Christmas games to celebrate the end of this fantastic year. Don’t worry party games can get you pretty fit too!
