Slam Dunking the Junk!

Wednesday 13th November 2019

Written by Nicola Marshall

Wednesday's are my new Saturday!❤

What a Fabulous Night! Tonight we welcomed a special visitor from Radio Stoke, the lovely Hazel. It was a delight to have her joining the task and also taking some time to chat with you about GoodGym and what it means to you (be sure to listen out on the radio tomorrow!). Huge kudos goes to Phil for arranging it all. Thank you so much Phil.

The Task We started the evening with our usual, slightly wacky warm up - this week we used giant playing cards to choose what exercise to do. Runners took it in turns to pick a card and the card they pulled dictated what exercise we did. We had squats, tricep dips, kick backs and high knees. Barry picked the first card and chose the Joker - this meant we had to do every exercise in quick succession! There were a few groans!

After our warm up, we set off on our run to the task. It was a super chilly night but the sky was clear with no rain again (how lucky??????!!!!!).

Tonight we split the runners into two groups - The A Team and The B Team (original, I know!). Each team captain had a list with items they had to find, gaining 2 points for every item they found on the list and 10 bonus points for a piece of rubbish starting with G (for GoodGym obviously). I was impressed with the A Team's 'Gift Bag' (they assure me they found it and that it hadn't contained sneaky alcoholic contraband!!). The B team found numerous 'Greg's food wrappers, so we let that one slide as I was feeling particularly generous! During our task tonight, we were collecting rubbish from the Sherborne Estate, helping to make a difference within our local community, especially for those living on the estate. The team that collected the most rubbish won 10 additional bonus points. Needless to say, there was plenty of rubbish collected tonight but the A Team took the points and zoomed into the lead. A quick fire quiz round (while jogging on the spot I might add!) concluded the challenge and the A Team took the lead with a cracking 38 points while the B Team achieved a very respectable 32. Well done to the A Team and thank you for generously sharing your winnings with the rest of the tribe - much appreciated - although reading Phil's tweet just now, I think he may have over indulged on them!

Upon our arrival back at base, we did our cool down with some wonderful teamwork between Barry and Pam with their balancing.

Oh and we had a great fun fact tonight - 'It's impossible to hum while holding your nose' - which of course resulted in everyone trying to hum while holding their noses.... obviously!

Next Week Hoping to have a great task lined up for next week so watch out on the website for more details (fingers crossed it will come off!). It will be great to see you!

Have a great week everyone and thanks for being so awesome and for making my week so much fun!

Love & hugs ❤

Wave your 'Pickers' in the air like you just don't care!!

Wednesday 16th October 2019

Written by Nicola Marshall

I LOVE Wednesday's!!

Since GoodGym Crewe launched at the beginning of October, Wednesday's have fast become my favourite day of the week! I love spending the evening with lovely like minded people, doing good in the community, exercising and having fun and laughs! In just 3 weeks, I think it's fair to say that we've already created our GoodGym 'Tribe', something I'm truly proud to be a part of.

Bravo!

Well done to Rachel who ran the Manchester Half last weekend. An amazing achievement Rachel. Well done you! Hope the legs are back to normal soon :-)

Pickers at the Ready!

Our night (weather kind to us for the 3rd week in a row!) started with our Fartlek warm-up (no rude comments please! ;-)) Varying our pace to help increase speed and endurance. We also focused on our posture, imagining that we had a helium balloon tied to the top of our head to straighten our back and shoulders. Off we set to the 'Rocky' steps where we did several reps up the steps and back down the ramp (all we were missing was Eye of the Tiger playing in the background). If we weren't warmed up before, we certainly were now! We ran to the Sherborne Estate where we collected litter pickers and bin bags. We made a great impact in a short amount of time - clearing lots of litter from around the local houses, the play park and surrounding area. It was nice to see some of the local residents coming out to see what we were up to - hopefully they'll remember our red T-Shirts!! Our run back was a slightly shorter route but still far enough to get the heart rate up. We finished the evening with our stretches and I think it's fair to say that we won't forget John's favourite stretch in a hurry!

Thanks

Thank you to Rachel for being back marker this evening and to Amanda and Rachel for the pun. Genius of me to get you guys to come up with them! Lol!

Oops

Can't believe I forgot the most important thing of all - tonight's fact of the week..... The King of Hearts is the only king in a deck of cards without a moustache! I'm sure you'll sleep better tonight for knowing that! ;-)

Next Week's Task

As you know, details of next week's task are still to be finalized, so watch out on social media for what we'll be getting up to.

Thanks everyone for another fab night. I really do enjoy being with you all! Have a great week and hope to see you all again next week.

Take care Love & Hugs Nicola XX
