After last week's cancellation due to ice, we were really happy to welcome 80 young parkrunners and their grown-ups to run/jog/walk/skip their way around The Mystery junior parkrun course today. The run was ably led by Luke Curtis, making his debut as Run Director. The Super Six of us were stationed as marshals along the third stretch of the course, now named GoodGym Hill, and cheered, applauded and high-fived to the max. After the run, most of us sped off to Greenbank Park, not for breakfast at the Watering Can, but for our next Community Mission! We are very lucky in Liverpool to have so many beautiful parks and open spaces to enjoy. Each one is unique and it has been lovely to have had the opportunity during the January Challenge to help to take care of some of these special places, supporting the work of the teams who turn up all year round to look after them and make them a place of fun and recreation.

This icy January morning, seven Liverpool GoodGymmers wrapped up in their warmest thermals and set out to traverse the frozen wastes of Wavertree to help out at The Mystery junior parkrun. As we arrived through the mists the core team were still in need of course-checkers, with there being some rapidly thawing ice on the paths. We set out to jog round the course and soon found that there were still some patches that were likely to be hazardous to our young and enthusiastic runners. The Run Director sadly had to call off the run just before the 9.00 am start time but were glad to have had our help in ensuring that this popular local junior event stays safe for all.

It was a dark and stormy night in Liverpool, followed by a rainy morning, but that didn't deter eight GoodGym members from joining the regular volunteer team at The Mystery junior parkrun. Forty youngsters braved the rain on the course, some big puddles, and the mud in the finishing funnel to complete their free 2km run, walk or skip today.
Emma, Christine, Mat, Pauline and Sam provided GoodGym cheers and high-fives en route, while Tim took on the role of Timekeeper for the first time and did it perfectly (despite his look of trepidation on the photo here!), Roz scanned barcodes (for the 31st time!!!) and Jo kept everyone in order in the finish funnel. After that we were more than ready for breakfast with the team at The Watering Can cafe nearby.
Thanks to the Mystery core team for their warm welcome today - as Run Director Graham encouraged all the kids to shout in the warm up: "GoodGym - good job!"

As the mist cleared over the Mystery Park in Liverpool, assorted ghosts, ghouls, witches and other creatures of the night were seen making their way towards the start of the special Hallowe'en junior parkrun. After a warmup, our six Good Gym (or should that be Evil Gym?) members Jo, Sam, Tim, Emma, Tony and Pauline did a sterling job of protecting the 76 young runners as they made their way round two gruelling laps of the route. A suitably seasonal pumpkin-lined finishing funnel awaited them, along with some devilishly tasty Scooby snacks as a reward for surviving the 2km run.
A special shout out to Emma for completing a frighteningly fantastic 50th Good Gym mission today!
