Four of us met at Westbury Park Church this evening to help them get ready for a charity fair that they are holding this coming Saturday, to raise funds for local charities.
We were doing a different kind of raising by moving chairs from the main church into one of the side rooms and stacking them neatly in rows to keep the space and walkways clear to allow access to doorways, whilst creating the space required for the setting up of the fair.
It was great that Laura joined us for her first GoodGym task and also proved to be our secret weapon, as whilst Clo , Richard and I discussed how best to go about things, Laura got stuck straight in and had already shifted loads of chairs in a blur of graceful activity. Following her lead, we quickly set about moving and stacking the chairs in the designated area and in no time at all, our "shift" was done. 💪
Just time for a few photos with the obligatory props and we were on our way.
Job's a good 'un 😊

Tonight it was... Tetris Time!
The location: Westbury Park Church The task: Preparing for their Christmas Fayre happening this Saturday by removing all the chairs from the hall and stacking them in an incredibly small vestibule The players: Dave and Shona as the right-hand side stackers v. Alice, Richard and Chris as the left-hand side stackers The soundtrack: a tinny Tetris theme tune via Chris's phone
The game kicked off to a tense start: while Team Left had much more space to play with, Dave and I were determined to go higher and cram those chairs in. With the side-on technique mastered by both sides, the stacking began. Team Left's chairs were perfectly and very neatly stacked, but they lacked the adventurous spirit to take on Team Right's courageous 7-level stacking. Dave's precision got that final chair up to the top only to be told by our hosts that we were being a bit too adventurous for them and we had to delayer back to a five-stack. Team Left were victoriously smug about the outcome, but we all had a chance to be smug when I told the team that last year we had to put a lot of the chairs in a different location as we couldn't fit them all in. GoodGym Bristol 2019 = 1, GoodGym Bristol 2018 = 0
Our work did not end their, we covered and cellotaped the tables and moved them into position, then moved some of the comfy chairs for older people. We then had a well-earned rest on them while daydreaming about the cup of tea we would love to drink while sitting in them. Instead, our time was up and the hall was ready, so it was time to wish good luck to the team for Saturday and head back into the rainy night.
