Nicola, Jen, Sol and Sheila met with Laura, the Head of White Waltham CofE Academy, to help with some outside tasks. Laura had a long list of tasks for us, so our challenge was to see how many we could complete in the time available. The first task was to dismantle some raised beds which were under the trees in the play area so that they could be relocated to the front of the school. Jen led the way, proving to be a demon demolisher with a hammer. Everyone joined in, and any good pieces of wood were saved, and the rest transported to the front of the school ready for the skip. The soil from the beds was shovelled into the wheelbarrow, and Sol got her daily steps in by wheeling several barrow loads round to the front of the school where it was used to fill in holes in the mud kitchen area. The only rake available was small plastic one, but Jen was not put off, and the end result was a much safer place for the children to play. Before we left, Jen had a quick go at pulling out a lavender bush, but we have promised to make a return visit to remove the rosemary bush which is currently sitting where the raised beds will be relocated to. And there is some tree-lopping to be tackled too, so watch this space! After a quick play on the trim trail in the woods (Amy would love this for a Goodgym fitness session) we made our way home. Thanks to Laura for giving us this fun task, and for letting us play in these beautiful school grounds.
