A day of Daffodils and Cheese Toasties!
Dig: What a lovely way to spend a couple of hours on Sunday helping wonderful Wood Street Gardeners - we arrived to meet the organisers and got all tools and spring bulbs and heading to community garden and pedestrian/cycling filter area nearby. We weeded the gardening beds, put bulbs in under the great direction of Stavros who's the behind this fantastic group, then cleared up around the beds mulching with leaves the area that we've weeded and then tidied up with a job well done!
Drink & Eat: After we finished we went to Dudley's cafe to warm up with a good cup of tea and a three-cheese toastie as it was lunchtime and cake seemed slightly inappropriate:) We had such a lovely time getting to know each other and sharing cycling tips and recipes!

Good job done by all.
The task owner greeted us and with new litter pickers in tow we cleared litter and leaves from a "filter" park.
Fab first go for the new kit from Clean Up UK.

I love it when a plan comes together and together it came last night. Yes, it was time for the GoodGym Waltham Forest crew to return for the third and final instalment of building a large planter with the fantastic Wood Street South Gardening Club.
Located near the top of Church Hill in the lovely Walthamstow Village, our task also encompassed cutting back plenty of lavender from the locality. With plenty to do, we were lucky to be joined by a superhero last night! Newcomer Ben Margerison revealed his secret identity during the headcount as none other than Ben 10. Mind you now that I think of it, it may have been something to do with his standing next to numbers nine and eleven at the time! Nevertheless, Ben and the rest of the crew grafted like The Avengers taking on Thanos's Black Order.
With about 500 meters separating the compost from the planter it was relay time as everyone got busy shovelling, barrowing, emptying and repeating. With a limited amount of gardening equipment on hand, a few of the crew dived off for some interval action before returning to swap shifts and take a turn on the barrows.
While all this was going on Beth, Hannah and Ruth cut down and a veritable forest of lavender from some nearby flowerbeds. They returned accompanied by the most wonderful aroma of the freshly cut flowers.
We look forward to our return to this place later in the year for more planter action.
In the meantime, we have lots of exciting tasks on the horizon starting with next week's creative job from the warmth and comfort of The Mill. We will be prepping for their Halloween Party so do come along. Sign-up here

Last night saw the dynamic team from GoodGym Waltham Forest (GGWF) pick up where we left off last week. The task in hand was to continue our three-week project to build, fill and plant a large planter with the inspirational and award-winning Wood Street South Gardening Club.
There to meet us with our task instructions was our cheerful point-man, Stavros. After checking the instructions from local gardening guru Tim Hewitt, we split into two groups. Group One took care of the planter by installing a lining and moving it into place. Group Two headed to the compost at St Mary's Church to fill barrows with matter and transport it to the planter. No easy feat when the compost and the planter were about 500 meters apart.
Digging in a graveyard at night is always a little bit spooky and it's thanks to Jo Stevens for today's Shakespearean pun! Anyway, dig they did and it wasn't long before many mounds of mulch made its way over to the planter. Here the two groups converged to fill said planter.
With it being the first Wednesday of the month, after our work was done, it was time to get all social. This month we headed to Crate for some fantastic food although with the plunging temperature meant the alfresco setting was only for the hardy crew from GGWF.
Next week is Planters III, The Return Of The Return Of The Planters. [Sign-up here].
