This was very much last minute task request so this morning I cycled to South Woodford to see how I can help Redbridge's Ukranian Crisis appeal. the roads outside were blocked due to so many people coming to bring their donations and the tube strike. Wasn't a problem on the bike
On arrival I jumped straight into it - the place was an absolute hive of activity with so many people coming to donate and helping to sort and pack an absolute mountain of donations. I started with sorting out clothes into boxes, then moved on to sealing up boxes, then made cuppas for others, carried bags into storage and them more of the same.
The priest and organisers made sure that people took breaks and didn't crash. During those breaks I had a chance to connect with fellow residents and not gonna lie we had a cry about the situation that is happening in Europe and all other refugee crises around the world. Many of us know that one day it might be us that people will be doing this for because you never know. This drove us on to carry on!
The vans started to arrive and were being loaded up by fresh arrival of local volunteers.
People of Redbridge really came together for the people of Ukraine that are going through a horrific ordeal.
If you're around this afternoon, pop in to see if they still need help from 4pm.
