Cereal Thrillers

Thursday 9th January 2020

Written by York runner

On a slightly grey Thursday morning we rocked up to York Foodbank's warehouse to find many familiar foodbank volunteers enjoying a cuppa before the van with the donations arrived, with the plea to rid them of a mince pie or two.

Shortly after Rich turned up so did the van and the frenetic activities began. From weighing, to categorising and then sorting by BBE date we scurried round the stacks to find the right crate.

Rich soon got stuck into his favourite food category - the breakfast cereals (which was good because the crates were only getting higher), while I found an overly familiar box of pasta and... what I thought to be only a myth, a can of out of date spam!

After 2 hours, many cups of tea and countless cans of baked beans, cereal, coffee, soup, biscuits...etc,etc later we wrapped up the task, said our goodbyes and went on our merry way.

A long thyme eggo in a galaxy bar farfalle.... 4 sauce-y Goodgym-ers gathered at the York Foodbank warehouse to provide extra mussels in shifting stock into to a van destined for Leeds (if it had enough juice).

Amy was already getting stuck in with a can do attitude when I arrived. Joined not long after by Kate (who didn't have time to cycle but did avocado) and then the jammy Louise.

You might have thought we were crackers looking at the amount of stuff we had to shift but with a few cheese-y puns to help keep our sprites (7)up we dispatched the van in record time.

Without so much as a snicker we moved on to sorting the latest batch of donations. With the help of the regular volunteers the operation was fine tuna(ed) so it was oat so simple and before we knew it, hey pesto!, We finish(ed) soup-er quick.

So we said pasta-la vista to our new friends and made our milkyway back home. Hope this run report didn't take the biscuit!
