Adelajda has done their first good deed with GoodGym.

Adelajda is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

York Report written by York runner

On a drizzly February eve, a crowd of 31 GG Yorkies gathered for a 4km run to do some good.

We gave some cheers to our new runners, Sister Meyers and Sister Gjjikaj, and kicked off our session with a Ceilidh Dance warm up which was freshly inspired from Friday's social.

On arrival at Clarence Gardens we were met by the lovely Kristina who explained that our task was to clear all the leaves and debris from the small trench around the bowling green. We also needed to clear as many leaves and twigs as we could from the bowling green itself, but without making holes or damaging it.

Before any task could begin, we presented Ellie with the Cape of Good Deeds to wear for the remainder of the evening to celebrate her reaching 50 good deeds! Make sure you give her a massive cheer, she's our top Good Deeder of the month thus far.

Unfortunately, the key for the gate was not on the set Kristina had, so our first challenge of the task was to carefully scale the fence. Barbara managed to get herself stuck with one leg on either side whilst long-legged Huw just stepped over. Tim - for the first time ever - made a non-dangerous suggestion of using the wheelbarrow as a step which was actually fairly effective.

With everyone safely into the bowling green (except Tim, who was on wheelbarrow duty on the outside), the leaf collecting began. Tens of green bags were filled with leaves and twigs which were scooped out of the trenches and picked carefully off the green. We tried to step gently as we could to minimise any damage to the grass, especially as it was so wet.

It's like we're on a covert treasure hunt - Leanne, who was creeping around in the dark collecting twigs

There was a bit of squealing as some people mistook worms for twigs, what with it being quite dark and everything.

In the final few minutes, people were scrabbling for the last few twigs and psyching themselves up for the climb back over the fence. Ellie had gone crazy with the cape and decided to climb in a tiny tree, we weren't entirely sure why but she enjoyed it so really that's all that matters.

After our run back, we finished up with a Winter Olympics themed fitness session which was a HIIT workout containing some of the following exercises:

  • Ski jumps
  • Ice skaters
  • Downhill ski position

..and ended with a few slow motion lunges where we pretended we were curling. It was all very much exactly like the Winter Olympics. We had a good stretch out and refueled like true athletes on Ellie's celebratory brownies too.
