Bristol Report written by Paul Becker (he/him)
Community missions are fast becoming a regular part of a GG Bristol weekend and today's was a good one, helping out Hayley from Urban Buzz with some weeding at Canford Park in Westbury-On-Trym.
‘Urban Buzz’ is an exciting project to create 840 ‘Buzzing Hotspots’ in England and Wales for our declining pollinators. More than 210 hectares of urban space across 8 cities is being transformed into a rich and vibrant habitat for this very special purpose (That’s over 35 Wembley Stadiums!).
The location was perfect, a sunken pond surrounded by old rose beds that are now being re-purposed (sorry Mel) for our pollinator-friendly planting. With the rain holding off and the sun breaking through it was a very pleasant place to work - and enjoy a cup of tea with the party rings and wafers supplied by Mel - and her two house guests!
With Marcus coming along to help out at his local park, Matt joining us fresh from Kingsway parkrun and Fi completing the second of her 4 GG weekend slots we had plenty of pairs of hands so we managed to clear lots of space for Hayley to complete her new planting.
