“Another Fence Bites the Dust”

Newham Report written by Sharon

Tonight was group run meets community mission with Graham leading a small group from the Aquatic Center while the rest of us made our way from home.

Tonight we has been asked to remove and unsafe fence for one of the allotment community, taking things apart is always fun and we had some extra helping hands from a couple of the other allotment tenants.

This is a wonderful little community and as our friend Sybil from Emmanuel Church also has a plot here she made sure after task refreshments arrived for us.

Sunday we are having a party to celebrate our 11th Birthday

Bedding in

Newham Report written by Sharon

A visit to Emmanuel church for the team on Tuesday.

We started on the preparation for 2 new flower beds in the church ground.

They have a grassed area between some of the tress and the church members decided they need more flowers, which would help the pollinators.

Grass was removed and taken to the compost pile, the ground was a little dry but Adam made light work of loosing it up,a great way to celebrate his 25th good deed

Two new beds are now ready for the bulbs to be planted.

We look forward to seeing them bloom next year.

And again the ladies did us a wonderful post task feast......I didn't get a photo of the chicken...which disappeared very quickly

We are off to St Marys Allotment next week for some fence dismantling....Head torches are a must

Mulch later than it should have been

Newham Report written by Sharon

A very delayed report due to technical issues.......computer said no and then on a tech free holiday

Another wonderful visit to see Ang at Hackney Marsh Adventure Playground and a classic GG task for the night.

A very large pile of mulch to be shifted.

Lots of shoveling, walking and spreading and we had the area under the zip line full of mulch ready for the children the following morning. We even had time to put a good layer under the large swing area.

We will return to see Ang again in October.

Shedding Light (Footsteps) on the Lea

Newham Report written by Hilary (she/her)

Our compact team took to the streets of Canning Town to spread the word about Cody Dock’s “Lighting Up the Lea” Open Day—an event that takes place across not just one, but three festivals: Open House, Totally Thames, and Newham Heritage Month. Armed with flyers, we were on a mission to spark curiosity and draw in the crowd. The event is always fantastic, and we’d highly recommend a visit—check out all the details below!

When:
Saturday, 20 September 2025, from 11 am to 6 pm

Where:
Cody Dock, 11c South Crescent, Canning Town, London E16 4TL

What to Expect:
Free activities, workshops, exhibitions, performances, and new installations. Tours of the Cody Dock Boatyard and Frederick Kitchen restoration and a chance to explore the site’s arts, ecology, and heritage offerings.

Here’s the Cody Dock event page with full details: codydock.org.uk

Next week we're back at Emmanuel Church, this time to put our painting abilities to the test - sign up here.
