Ealing Report written by Liv Parker-Scott
The results are in....
With 2 days left of the January Challenge we needed just 5 more good deeds in the bank to hit our target but an incredible 18 people showed up last night meaning we totally smashed it! Full results to come next week but for now we can rest safely in the knowledge that we did an awesome job this month at GoodGym Ealing!
This week we had one new person join us with Mirko coming along to GoodGym for the first time. He nailed it, getting stuck right into the (grubby) task at hand and finishing one of our longer task runs. Great stuff!
One of our regular tasks, it's always a delight to head down to Hanwell on behalf of The Canal & River Trust to meet Jack with his big van of tricks and last night was all about litter picking and making the approach to the canal and surrounding area look a lot nicer.
Dump & Run...
A lot of rubbish was collected (a simultaneous feeling of satisfaction and disappointment) amongst which was sadly a load of crap... literally! So many poo bags flung into the woods off of the canal path but luckily GoodGym Ealing were most definitely on top of the situation... some may say on top of the plops!
A good haul later and it was time to shut up shop and complete our fitness session for the evening, we did a mix of sprints and exercises followed by a final show down where Alexander showed what his fast twitch muscle fibers were made of with one of the most impressive sprints I've seen on a group run yet!
Absolutely fantastic work tonight as always and a great end to a brilliant month of doing good and running loads!
Here's to more of the same next month!
Happy running :)

We stacked up the good deeds and the shelves last night as 27 AMAZING runners came out to help at Ealing Food Bank. This included 9 lovely new additions with Sophie, Aurelia, Jane, Vicky, Chris J, Chris B, Gemma, Perrine & Mohand all kicking off the new year in style by beginning their GoodGym journey. Welcome everyone!
You butter believe it!
With everyone full of beans (and in some cases peanut butter) and ready to raise their pulses (literally) we started with a quick warm up and fitness session on Haven Green. We began with some simple drills before turning up the tempo with some running circle drills before seeing how far our legs could curry us to the task.
A lot of the group had bought donations down with them to give on the night but fortuNUTely the many jars of peanut butter we had for offering hadn’t weighed us down too much and we made it to the task ready and raring to go! We were met by the lovely Hillary who after the initial shock of the number of us gave us lots of different tasks to do around the warehouse! With such a large turnout we were crammed in like sardines and soon it was a feeding frenzy of shelf stacking, food sorting and cleaning in every aisle.
The time soon came to make like a banana and split and we headed back to base for a quick stretch and debrief on the nights events.
Hopefully the extra puns littered throughout the report have whet your appetite and given you food for thought for next time when you could have your pun in lights on the report.
A special mention to Michael Kidd this week for leading the run and helping co-orindate the task, also his 99th good deed with GoodGym so next time we get to present him with the BIG 100 T-SHIRT!
As always a massive thank you to everyone who came tonight and hopefully see you all next time!

Even with miserable weather forecast and lots of people still away or only just returning from the holidays we still had 8 awesome runners turn up to perform a post Christmas clear up on the streets of Ealing!
Tonight we were happy to welcome two brand new runners Alexander and Clare, alongside Mollie who joined us in Ealing for the first time. Danieland Catherine *also completed their second good deeds (and first run!) with us and last but not least familiar faces *Mel and Georgia came along to join in the fun!
We started proceedings with a quick warm up and discussion about the best things we'd eaten over Christmas, nothing like a reminder of the over indulgence to motivate you to get out there and run I say! Then we were off into the night in search of discarded Christmas trees so we could take them to their designated recycling points where the are collected to be turned into nutrient-rich compost!
A great way to get your new year off to a green start!
It wasn't long before we had our first find and we quickly scooped up the sad looking tree before jogging on in search of more. It's still quite early for most decorations to be down so for a while we could only see trees through the windows of houses still fully lit and looking very festive, not what we were looking for!
Soon everything looked like a discarded tree and after a few false alarms we suddenly had a rush of abandoned trees to gather up. Newcomer Alexander got stuck straight in and had no problem knocking on a residents door to ask if we could take their tree from the porch. After initial disappointment that he wasn't the deliveroo driver they were expecting they were delighted for us to recycle the tree for them.
After a semi successful haul we finished up with a quick fitness session just as the heavens opened but everyone was in great spirits and we all agreed we definitely wouldn't have been out in the pouring rain doing jump squats on our own!
A great start to 2018, hope to see you all again next time!
Our next run is a special starter session this Saturday (yes that's right a Saturday!) after parkrun. All the details on how to sign up can be found here.

Tonight it was round 2 as we once again met Nicola from A Mile In Her Shoes to help sort kit donations. We had 12 lovely runners including one newcomer Emily, big welcome!
We mixed things up tonight and did a hill session before the task by running over the the infamous West Walk to complete a few reps. To encourage/bribe the runners I promised prizes for the first person up the hill each sprint rep. Michael K and was first over the line on attempt number one and looked like he'd really worked hard for his haribo reward and second time round Tim bounded to victory to claim the treasured red GoodGym laces. Good work from everyone all round!
We then jogged down to The Kings Arms (a massive thank you to them for hosting us for the past two weeks) to start on the new batch of donations to sort. We had a few different things crop up this evening including an array of running knickers with delightful motifs printed on the bum, unfortunately not very useful for the charity but a good source of entertainment for the group!
Again even though there was a mountain to sort through this evening we got it all done and everything is now ready to be given out women who are finding their feet through running with this great charity. We will continue to work with A Mile In Her Shoes in the future but if you'd like to be involved more in the meantime head over to their facebook page and think about popping along to their free fun running fitness session on 16th December.
Last but not least a little shout out for Michael C who looked after Hannah on the run tonight as she is a little injured, it's lovely to see everyone working together and looking out for each other.
Great job tonight everyone, happy running!
