Today was both World Cleanup Day and GoodGymâs Super Saturday so 12 fantastic Newcastle GoodGymmers got busy picking up litter from around the beautiful Ouseburn valley.
The ouseburn valley is a blissful oasis in the heart of Newcastle city centre that is full of twisting paths. That does mean there are a lots of spots for rubbish to get caught up in the undergrowth.
We split up into two different groups to cover more area and filled over 20 bin bags full of rubbish!!
Some of the most quirky things we found today included: one boot, one shoe, what looked like a mouth for Mr Potato Head, a wine glass, a pair of trousers, collected loads of cans and newspapers
If you put any pictures up on social media platforms please use the hash tag #GGSuperSaturdayand then pictures from all different activities will be collected together.
It was amazing to see so many people today and I think we definitely made a difference! Check out our Sunday mission weeding and willow weaving at Jesmond Community Orchard

Sam earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Sam completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Sam was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Today four GoodGymmers helped out clearing the shrubs at the edge of Elswick Park. The lovely Sam joined us for her first ever GoodGym task and Andrew completed his 99th task!
We met Andrea and Ken from Newcastle Parks who had been cutting down the big trees around the edge of the park and got to work helping them clear the debris and branches. Andrew and Sam got to work litter picking and soon each had a bin bag full whilst me and Andy grabbed some clippers and chopped down the smaller shrubs.
After an hour of good progress, we got caught in a surprise downpour and so took the hint from Mother Nature and have a lovely cup of tea hiding under some trees. This did give us a great chance for us to admire how much we managed to clear in the park.
Tea break over, me, Andrew and Andy got litter picking and Sam got chopping some more shrubs. Before we knew it, it was quarter to three and time to finish clearing the remaining debris.
It was a lovely afternoon in the park and thanks so so much to everyone who came along. If you want to help us make Newcastle parks a nicer place to be, we are back at St Lawrence Park next Saturday and back at Harbottle Park next Sunday.
