A flock of Goodgymers in and around Colchester waited with bated breath and baited bird tables to see...... not very much actually. Pigeons were plentiful, so were magpies, gulls and starlings, but very few landed. Our favourite visitors, such as robins, bluetits and longtailed tits were taking shelter elsewhere, and who can blame them in this stormy weather. A disappointing watch, but vital data for the RSPB, and a reminder not to take our wilder friends for granted. Upload all your sightings (and none!) to the RSPB website. Support your local population of wild birds by planting native wildflowers, fruit bushes or trees, putting out a water bowl, and maybe offering a nest box or two if you have space.

Five Goodgymers braved the cold and headed to Level Best to do a warm indoor task - yippee! We wrapped a mountain of gifts for the trainees and enjoyed the 'chilled christmas' mix on the sound system. Thanks for having us and enjoy the party this week guys!

A cool spring morning means wrap, get moving and wrap up again - then get coffee at our favourite Patch!
Bravo!

Over the years Goodgym has only stopped for really severe weather, although I am sure some people would have still gone out in the storms, snow and wind!
Tonight was a frosty affair, with both the fact that litter picking often is a frustrating task and the low temperatures. Annabel summed up the strange feeling of leaving without totally clearing an area of litter but nevertheless we did make an impact. We often find strange things in bushes, but never have we found two helmets. A Hard hat and a cycle helmet.
We almost filled four bin bags just on a short stretch of pathway not helped by the bottles and cans being full of ice.
With the temperature dropping we tied up the bags, warmed up rapidly and had a short battle with gravity on Balkerne Hill.
Well done litter warriors!
