A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush: It's better to cherish what you have than want for something 'better'.

That's exactly what the volunteers at Nunsmoor Park are doing as they lovingly restore the iron railing and archway lined 'Birdcage Way' which has been a popular promenade through Nunsmoor Park since 1889. As this path is the most direct and well-used passage through the park, it is important that the adjoining paths and junctions stay clear, allowing people to feel safe as they enjoy the park.

5 volunteers, including two lovely newbies, Iris and Josh, joined forces with the volunteers of Nunsmoor Park to clear one of the junction areas of weeds and overgrown bushes. Josh got to work trimming back the laurel while Katy, Ross and Iris took care of the weeds. We made fast work of it and when Emily arrived to take the regins from Katy and Ross, we knew we would be leaving the park looking lovely.

I am sure we will be back at Nunsmoor Park very soon to help out again at the Bike Garden and with their ongoing restoration. (Also, because I really want some freshly baked pizza from their pizza oven!)

Regular food and growing activities, rooms for hire and much more

The Bike Garden is a vibrant community space developed on the site of a previous bowling green in Nuns Moor Park, which now serves the community as a place to join in on regular food growing activities, place to hire for private and public events, that may be regular or one-offs, and much more
