A 'sentimental journey' to Splashpoint

It was another epic day when as we said goodbye to legendary actress Doris Day . With the help of Paul the run report this evening is themed and dedicated to this special lady especially as as some of us have had a 'secret love' for her music for many years.

This evening we were celebrating both national mental health awareness week together with 'Give it a go week' at Turning Tides. We had been asked to provide a fitness session at Lyndhurst Road to encourage both staff and residents to participate to illustrate both the physical and mental benefits of exercising and to motivate them into establishing a new routine of healthy living.

It was great to welcome Lee to GoodGym . Lee is another very special lady who volunteers extensively especially most weeks at parkrun together with other local charities. We hope that this is the first of many visits.

We also welcomed back Steve 'he'd just blown in from the Windy city' (of Inverness)

There's always a warm welcome for the rest of my team too ! Sue, Ros, Belinda, John , Andy, Anne, Gill, Paula, Tamsin with Jemmie,Emily and Paul 'fresh from his half marathon yesterday. Congrats on that buddy and to partner John too of course:)

Was everyone going to turn up on time for the session 'perhaps, perhaps, perhaps'

Walk leader John set off with Lee and Paula towards our very own pier of the year where Will Young was filming today. Runners followed and were once again beaten to the task by the walkers. This seems like it is now the 'norm'! It was a nice little 2k warm up on a sunny stunning evening to prepare our legs, heart and lungs for what followed!

We were all 'ready, willing and able' to start a great session.

Sadly, despite extensive advertisng there were no takers for the session at Lyndhurst road homeless hostel. We need to get our heads together and rethink how we can encourage fitness amongst staff and residents in a different way.

However on the plus side we had a beautiful sunny evening , a gorgeous area of lush green grass and lots of infectious energy for the fitness session within the grounds of the hostel .

All of us we keen to find out who was going to be 'teacher's pet' in the session

Ha ha Paul ! You know there are no teachers pets ! I love you all :)

We started with a fun warm up hopping relay to highlight how one legged work is important (but often neglected) for balance and agility in running. This provided some smiles and laughs before the main focus of the session!

By the end of the session we were all 'bewitched, bothered and bewildered' Paul was pooped after a half marathon yesterday so he wasn't at his best, he was at the 'deadwood stage'

We then paired up in bootcamp style with one person exercising, the other encouraging and then it was 'move over darling' to give the other person a go. The exercises included inchworms , press ups with leg jacks, Mountain climbers with a jump, burpees ( Jemmie's were the best! ) and squat jumps . With lots of partner motivation the pairs ensured they maximised the training effects and had lots of 'fun' too !

Followng this we headed for a walk, jog or run along the seafront towards with the option of going around Brooklands . This offered the option of a slightly longer run for some. I was hoping that going in a straight line along the prom we would not mis place anyone . Wrong!!

However, somehow we ( almost) all ended up back where we started .The runners finished with some bonus tricep dips and press ups before we all finished with leg and arm stretches.

Massive kudos to Lee ! This was a challenging one to start with . We hope that you wake up feeling proud of yourself and that your fingers will click the signing in tab for next week !

Thank you to all the team for the brilliant fun vibes tonight together with all the team back chat that is a continuous low rumble throughout the evening. I simply love it :)

Hoping for a brilliant session next week- what will it be? Que sera, sera

Pub ?!!
