The 7 strong gang met Keriann at the Slough Refugee Support warehouse, (which is actually in Maidenhead), to help sort the Himalayan sized mountain range of donations.

They had to sort the donations into clothes, shoes, accessories, toys, blankets, kitchenware and general items.

Kelley, Jen, Juli, Jess, Shelia, Anita and Georgetta started pulling bags out of the first storage area and set about sorting the contents.

Anita was dubbed the Shoes-day shoe lady and kept a keen eye on the pairs of shoes being flung in her direction.

The clothes were checked to ensure they were in suitable condition and anything which didn't pass was discarded and taken to the large bin outside. Unfortunately donations of bedding, socks, underwear and hats also met this fate as they cannot be passed on for hygiene reasons.

A small sofa quickly became overwhelmed with toys which had been pulled out of bags, teddies, unicorns, trucks, dinosaurs and colouring books all made an appearance in this new mini mountain we created!!

The team was able to return 31 large black bags of sorted clothes to the storage area and a relieved Keriann could start to see end to the mountain range.

There are two more sessions listed to help next week, so come along and join us.

Helping Refugees and Asylum Seekers across the Thames Valley

Slough Refugee Support – SRS – is a registered charity focused exclusively on the needs of refugees and asylum seekers. Established in 1997, we welcome and offer practical help to some of the most marginalised people in the local community - helping them with the many obstacles they face in their efforts to settle, contribute and thrive in the UK. Our philosophy and approach is rooted in the belief that refugees want and need to achieve self-reliance and independence as soon as they can. Our core programme is based around drop-in advice sessions and follow-up casework to resolve identified issues.
