A muddy good time was had by all at the Green Leek 10.5k Run

Five GoodGym-ers descended upon Burton Green Primary School on a cold, wet Sunday morning for the start of the Green Leek 10.5k run. After a quick warmup the runners trudged en masse to the start on the Greenway where an impromptu disco broke out, in a desperate bid to stay warm.

At ten o’clock the signal was given to start and the cold was soon forgotten as runners made their way down the Greenway towards Kenilworth.

The going got considerably more interesting as the race emerged into the Abbey Fields and all memories of dry feet disappeared as we squelched across the grass towards Castle Farm. Once out of Kenilworth it soon turned into a mud bath and the battle between the wish to remain upright, gravity and lack of friction quickly ensued.

As the race rounded the final corner and back onto concrete paths, runners broke out into an involuntary sprint finish on the steep finishing straight, crossing the line to receive medals, bananas and thoroughly deserved cake!

The results (chip times) were as follows:

Saul Parry - 00:46:57

Nigel Mills - 00:49:55

Fiona Monk - 00:56:35

Katherine Mills - 01:01:51

Allan Mansfield - 01:04:39
