There was a bit of a back to school feel in Wandsworth last night as, after a some very hot and sticky runs in past weeks, it seemed like there was a new season just around the corner.

This means there is a lot to do in the local area, especially for the community gardens readying themselves for Autumn. Our job last night was to run down to Doddington Roof Garden to help out at this lovely space which has been developed from an abandoned car park into a community garden where local people can grow fruit and veg.

We kicked off the night with a warm up, and welcomed Rory to his very first group run - great to have you join us Rory! So after testing our coordination and reflexes, we were ready for the off, but not without our weekly question. Given that yesterday was international cheese on pizza day (yes, it's a thing...) we reflected on our fave takeaways. Curry was the run away winner, but pizza came an honourable second, and there were even a few delicious sounding outliers such as Greek and good old fish and chips.

We weren't totally sure what the jobs we had to do were before setting off, but after promising it wouldn't be anything to do with the the hundreds of bags of compost we had previously lugged up the stairs, we arrived to find our task for the night was....shifting bags of compost. Sorry team! Still, watched over by the dozens of cats who have made Doddington their home, we carried the less-than-fragrant bags over to the beds and created a very good looking pile of useful soil. Great job everyone.

It was then over to the square where, with the sounds of Spanish music from the flamenco and language school next door as our accompaniment, we knocked out a total body workout with a brutal squat finisher. Well done on some excellent plank form, super sprinting and synchronised step ups!

After a short run back to base we had time for some stretches and a chat about all the good things coming up, including next week's run to Battersea Park, the regular Friday lunchtime community mission to serve lunch at a local shelter and an upcoming parkrun takeover at Fulham Palace where we hope to fill as many of the volunteer roles as possible - you can sign up here. Until then, have a great week, GoodGym!
