It was a pleasantly sunny February day and, it being half term, I decided to combine Aunty duty with a good deed!

We joined members of the forestry commission and the "Kids Plant Trees" initiative planting hedgerows at the Shire Brook Valley Nature reserve, picking up where Celine left off last week

These provide valuable habitat for lots of native woodland creatures. After a lesson on tree planting techniques, we got to work. We did 10 between us in an hour (I think I might have achieved more without my little assistant!). They've made excellent progress over the first 2 sessions and we should get the job finished a week Sunday. Come along, bring your kids or join us for Steel City Trail 10 at 09:30!

Come help us get to plant new hedgerow at Linley Bank Meadows in Sheffield

Kids Plant Trees has partnered with Sheffield City Council’s community forestry team to plant lots of new hedgerow at Linley Bank Meadows. There are a number of planting dates and session times, we’d love support from GoodGymers to get lots of whips in the ground. Our experts will show you how. All tools and equipment provided. There will be refreshments provided too.
