Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)
Many hands make light work of dismantling dens made by many other hands over quite a long time.
Some of the "host" trees were suffering from not enough air and space so we'd been asked to dismantle the big dens that had been built up at Leigh Woods. We felt a bit like the fun police, but the aim is to enable the dens to be re-built in time.
We tried various tactics from javelin throwing to caber tossing, always enjoying the loud crack as logs fell to the ground. And spotted a fair variety of fungus on the logs.
After a dry half hour, the rain came back with a vengeance by we carried on to clear the next couple of dens and celebrated Fii's wizardry at setting her phone on the woods and using her watch as a remote control to take a fab few photos.
Hopefully we'll be back to play in the woods soon, now we know that if we build dens big enough, we can help take them down again!
