This weeks GoodGym run was short and sharp. Here's what the 30 lovely people got up to.

Short Run

We ran about 1.2k to the Skip Garden in Granary Square. Here's a quote from their website (it's as cool as it sounds!)

Among the cranes and the cement mixers, the apartment buildings and the office blocks, our Skip Garden is an urban oasis with a twist - a portable garden that moves to different locations on the King's Cross site as and when land is sold and built on. It is a garden of a thousand hands, built by young people and local business volunteers, together creating a new and sustainable community. It is a unique space where apple trees, pumpkins and beans grow out of skips, and tomatoes, ginger and chillies grow under polytunnels made with water pipes and polythene. The Skip Garden is largely self sustaining, thanks to a full complement of organic gardening practices. All of the food we grow is used in our Skip Garden Kitchen.

Short Task

We had a very simple task. They have just moved all the plants into 2 big poly tunnels but the shelves they have assembled are too low. They needed to shift all the heavy plants out of the tunnel so the shelves can be reassembled. It was just the sort of challenge we love- we'll go back next week to put them all back.

They would have taken ages for Paul to move and would have been pretty back breaking to boot. Its great that they can rely on us for these kind of jobs. With a team like ours these things are pretty easy (we only needed half the group to get the job done), but it makes a big difference to others. Paul and the team can concentrate on other things.

Short Speed Work

We busted out some short sharp running too, interspersing some short fast sprints with longer slower intervals. Amazingly we broke the womens world record on our first lap...though I think that might have been down to my failure to measure the course properly.

We also had some time for a few rounds of core exercises, busting out some planks, lunges and Russian twists with each round getting increasingly difficult! Nice work.

Short Cool Down

We had a bit of time so decided to take a longer cool down, running a short loop around the canal before heading back to Somers Town. Good opportunity to have a social chat and coerce people to going along to the pub afterwards! Nice job all!
