Report written by Tabitha Skinner
On a wet Monday night, Goodgym Brent met in Willesden and hid under the shelter of the library until we all arrived. We warmed up and ran a speedy 1.5 km to Granville Community Kitchen where Leslie was waiting for us, who kindly let us hang our wet coats, hats and gloves on the radiator.
Granville community kitchen empowers the local community through food related activities enabling the South Kilburn community to access nutritious, affordable and sustainable food. http://granvillecommunitykitchen.org.uk/ Leslie explained the work they do and gave us leaflets for us to join their radical weekly veg bag scheme, good food box , http://granvillecommunitykitchen.org.uk/good-food-box/
The kitchen needs a monthly deep clean and this could be the start of a regular task for us . We split into four groups and got started. Tabitha and Pete cleaned the sinks and surfaces , Emily and CJ cleaned two fridges , Liz cleaned a fridge in the corridor and Sam & Roberto tackled the filthy oven . With 8 of us working hard we completed the tasks in no time at all and the kitchen was left gleaming.
Hopefully you can spot which photos are the before and which are the after! Leslie was grateful for the help and we put our warm dry jackets on and headed off home.
Great job team Brent !
We build community around food and heth activities such as food aid food growing and exercise classes.
