Our lucky 13 Bank Holiday Superheroes forewent sunny BBQs to get fit and do good in our beloved city.

This Group Run formed part of GoodGym's celebration of the Nation's Biggest Sports Day, I Am Team GB

It has been the most stunning Bank Holiday weekend and while many would have wanted to make the most of chilling in the sunshine, GoodGym Liverpool knew that there were better things to do. Yes, there are always good deeds to be done, so after a short run down to the Bombed Out Church, the team were ready to get stuck in. Greeted by Ambrose, he lined up various tasks and the team sprung into action.

A task we've done now numerous times is to move the ridiculously heavy pews around this iconic Liverpool landmark. These pews take at least 6 members of our team to move and the big ones at least 8 people. Without regular help from GoodGym, the tiny team at the Bombed Out Church find this task almost impossible. But we got it sorted in just 10 minutes with some fantastic team work.

Next up, we split the team into two with some of them attempting to pick up the non-biodegradable confetti littering the floor from a recent wedding. The other half had a heavy digging and lifting task, removing the flags of a wonky old path so that they can be relaid in more of an accessible way.

Shout out to newbie Neil who really got stuck in at the task with some heavy lifting. Great work fella, we'd love to welcome you back again soon.

Finally, some of the team went outside the church and lifted some very heavy old ivy trails into a neat pile, ahead of wood chipping.

Job done, we headed back up the hill and to the Metropolitan Cathedral for a bit of steps fun. It was a hot evening to start with but certainly a few times up the steps and everyone was sweaty, but happily feeling a little fitter than when we started.

Fantastic work today team - and especially well done for coming out and doing good on your Bank Holiday. You are all heroes.

We're doing it all again next week. Will you join us? Find out more and sign-up here.

This task supported

Since 2007 the church has been operating as a managed ruin and multidisciplinary arts venue with a programme of curated events, community engagement and creative learning projects. A gateway building within the city, crucial to both its past and present, the Bombed Out Church is a place for everyone.
