Blessed with a bonus bank holiday, Lisa and I set to work sorting out the Easter hampers for the lunch club at St Luke’s with the other lovely volunteers.

After 2 hours of checking, repacking, stacking and restacking we had made up 45 (plus some spares for good luck) hampers just in time for the delivery of fresh goodies from Fareshare. After a slight trolley mishap (no hot cross buns were harmed) we left for the next shift of volunteers to prepare for the families arrival.

Supporting families in need in Barton Hill

We usually provide a school holiday lunch club and activities during the school holidays for disadvantaged families, since Covid we've been offering food hampers. St Luke's Church Most of the time the families come and collect the food, which most prefer as they get to choose their food. We've been offering more and more food, for which some families have struggled to carry over to their cars or to walk back to their home (less than 10-15min walk). We don't have a large team of volunteers so can't help everyone with the carrying.
