Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Tuesday night’s run was an anaerobic affair as a hardy group gathered ready to tackle the driving rain that had been promised throughout the day. But being GoodGym the weather gods were once again kind, providing a very mild and mainly dry evening, perfect for the task in hand.

Chris explained that following our recent Saturday session, working with LinkAge to help restore a community garden for older people in Redcliffe, tonight’s task was to distribute flyers to the neighbouring blocks of flats to spread the word about getting involved there.

New members, Daniel and Tori, were welcomed to the group - great to meet you both and hope you really enjoyed the session. Likewise, Paul’s son Kieran who joined us for his second task, providing a bit of youth to the proceedings.

Also, a huge shout out to Gary who, just two days after a phenomenal performance at the Bristol to Bath Marathon, was in attendance, for a task that was hard on legs and lungs.

Following the usual introduction we headed off on a short run to Redcliffe where we split into two groups, tasked with distributing flyers throughout four blocks of flats.

Many will have heard of races that involve running up huge tower blocks in London - we had twelve flights to negotiate and that was hard enough. A lung busting, lactate inducing effort saw the flyers delivered at impressive pace throughout the labyrinth like buildings with just a hint of the competition that was to come!

The task duly completed, we set off on a slightly longer run back. Coming across rows of stone benches and thinking “what would Pru do?” the group threw itself into a series of triceps dips and step ups before heading towards Castle Green alongside the river.

With a bit of time on our hands a suitable course was identified for some more “anaerobics” and we split into the same two groups for a relay race. Great fun and we all stayed dry despite part of the route being very close to the water.

Then it was back to base for the usual stretches and banter - great job gang! A short but hard effort!
