Once again Goodgym takes you to the parts of the city other running clubs don’t reach as we headed to Craven Vale woods for a litter pick. If you haven’t been for a stroll through this little haven of woodland then get yourself over there ASAP! Local resident Alan explained how the area, once allotments, has been taken over by sycamore trees but local residents are gradually replacing them with more native species to create a diverse woodland habitat and nature reserve.

But unfortunately the area has also been invaded by an unwanted species - the litter bug! Whilst some of us roamed the woods picking up the usual haul of crisp packets, bottles, glass, drink cans, pens, lighters and random bits of plastic another group worked on the pathway adjacent to the local houses which has been used as a dumping ground for years. Vegetation is now growing through the litter so there was some epic pulling and heaving to dislodge items including a carpet and a woolly jumper. Not quite in good enough condition to donate to a jumble sale! Several residents thanked us for our efforts and Alan was very pleased with what we achieved.

Welcome to Kate, joining us for the first time, after seeing us out and about in Elm Grove last week, great to have you on board and well done for finding us in the woods!
