Seven GoodGymmers spent a productive morning shifting mulch for Millfields Community Orchard in Hackney.

It’s a lovely little spot by the River Lea, with the trees producing fruit including apples, cherries and apricots. Hackney Council had donated 10 tonnes of lovely warm steaming compost to use as mulch on the trees, helping them to grow nice and strong.

The task was simple – shovel the mulch into wheelbarrows, move it round to the trees, and then tip and spread. After a couple of hours there was still a large pile left, but we’d definitely made some good progress with lots of trees mulched. A good morning’s work by all!
