Three runners met to offer support for Maidenhead’s Baby Bank, on one of the hottest days on record. Ana and Em ran across Maidenhead together to meet Amy, a co-founder of the charity and fellow GoodGym member Allora.

The Baby Bank is a local charity that collect donations from the public and shares these with families in need. The organisation has relocated various times across the county but has been settled for the past two years in Maidenhead. They offer a variety of essentials for children, varying from new-born clothes, to toys for young children and clothes for teenagers.

Suited up with gloves and aprons, the three runners worked to sort through numerous bags of donations. Some bags had been pre-sorted by another Volunteer from the organisation, so the task for the runners was to check the ages of the clothes and place them into designated boxes. This meant that the clothes could be easily grabbed at a later date when needed, to be given to a local family. Despite some traffic delays, GoodGym were able to offer an hour of time to sift through the items, clearing a mammoth pile of donations.

After the hour, the runners left the event and made their way into the ever-increasing heat. Allora also fitted her GoodGym run in, running home from Maidenhead, despite the scorching temperatures.

If you have any children’s clothes, toys or related items, the organisation is happy to take in donations. Follow their Facebook page to find out what they need and how to donate. They are also very grateful for any items on their Amazon wish list. Donations will be prepared into gift baskets and shared with families in need. Moreover, any help the Baby Bank can receive to help organise is very beneficial. Our next opportunity to volunteer is Tuesday morning and you can sign up here.

Providing essentials to families in extreme need

The Baby Bank collects donations of good quality clothes, equipment, and furniture to help families in extreme need. They provide essentials ranging from everyday items like nappies, and wipes to larger items like cots. They support families beyond the baby stage, for example with school uniform. They aim to give all children the best possible start in life.
