Roberta, Kevin, Gillian and Sheila met at the community allotment on a beautiful sunny evening. Trevor was already hard at work with the watering can, giving all the fruit and veg a good drink. We were delighted to be joined a little later on by Marina from the Ukraine, who had found her way to us by train and walked from the station. This was her first Goodgym session, and she got stuck in, with clipping back some hedging. We had 2 hedges to prune, and then some fruit bushes to plant. Sheila and Nicola put in the golden raspberries and also cleared the grass from around the existing canes to help them establish. Gillian, Roberta and Trevor put in four gooseberry bushes, being careful of the prickles! Nicola then made the mistake of asking if there was anything else to do, but still cheerfully gave the fig tree a good mulch of horse manure Great job, everyone, and lovely to meet Marina. See you at another Goodgym session soon!

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
