The FANTASTIC FIVE assembled at the head of the River Sheaf Walk to help SUSTRANS stalwart Simon with the upkeep of the local walking and cycling network.

This section of the city centre network is a great connection to get people off the ring road and to/from the train station especially. Unfortunately it's also a bit of a litter hot spot and regularly becomes a wet leaf trap making the path slippery and less appealing to use.

Enter goodgym. We grabbed tools from Simon and got straight to it with a variety of:

  • Litter picking - 3bags at least, mainly full of retro sweet wrappers
  • Cutting back - to improve sight lines and allow the street lights to better light the path
  • Leaf clearing - widening the path and making it less slippery

In a small space of time the path was looking a lot cleaner, clearer and better lit so will hopefully be safer and more attractive for all to use in the future.

If you have suggestions of parts of routes that need attention, do let us know and we can factor this into our future plan with Simon and SUSTRANS.

Until next time, happy running! :)
