Hot off the heels from last night's mission (the YMCA Sleep Easy event), there was no rest for Ashley and Pete who were ready to take on today's challenge: to improve the bowling green at Normanton Park. Pete even managed to squeeze in a parkrun on the way!
We were joined and guided by Judith, Lynn and Will, volunteers from the Friends of Normanton Park, who set us up with tools, tea and a vision.
We started with a classic GoodGym litter pick to make the area safe, then there were a lot of leaves to move, a task Naomi enjoyed because it involved bear claws! With the borders tidy and ready for their makeover, we planted the lavender and rosemary to create a beautiful scented area by the benches.
Feeling inspired and creative, the group decided to add a more defined edge to the border, making a flowing curvaceous line ... until it reached what will forever be known as Ashley's Peninsula! You'll see in the photos how proud Ashley was to make his mark on Normanton Park!
It was wonderful to hear about the work done by the Friends of Normanton Park. As well as gardening, they regularly litter pick to keep the park looking beautiful, and work closely with local people and organisations to provide volunteering opportunities and community activities for everyone to enjoy. Several people came over to see what we were doing and to say thank you to the group; it clearly means a lot to those who visit.
We hope everyone will be bowled over by the bowling green makeover!
